Bug diary: another very pretty Araneus i saw on my walk
Bonus footage of me trying to get a good picture of the belly but failing because my ohone wouldnt focus correctly:
LAST three blue death feigning beetles the local small pet store is ever getting so i nabbed them because they’re the lowest maintenance bug and i have 400 terrariums
from what i can tell so far the two big ones are female and the little one is a very horny male who had his ween out the whole way home and didn’t stop fucking until they were in their new terrarium
btw i have big plans to upgrade my blue feigning death beetles’ terrarium a bit, i originally thought that Prickle’s old tarantula box would be good for them but im actually gonna get a bigger tank with a mesh top and im currently drying out some desert soil mix! these guys require 20-30% humidity as opposed to my spiders who are more in the 60-80% range. i had given them the desert soil to begin with but it turned out it still had a lot of moisture making it WAY too humid in there so that’s why they have jungle/ forest substrate rn, temporary fix since it was my only dry stuff.
im very very excited to improve their home even more, it’s already an improvement from the pet store (they were housed in the same high humidity section as the other inverts, so they were probably uncomfortable for a while in there) and they certainly weren’t getting spoiled with big meals there lol.

regardless they seem very happy and active so far :D i don’t handle them a lot because i don’t wanna mess up their protective waxy layer (that’s what the blue pigment is from) but when i do handle them they’re so sweet and curious! they really love sniffing my hand with their antennae :’)
