We went for a three-and-a-half-mile hike and ran into lots of other PHE families on the trail. Mom made us some turkey sandwiches, which we ate on what we called Snack Rock. You were both all over the place, exploring and happy. I thought I'd be carrying Magnus for most of the hike, but he made it all the way to the half-way point without needing a lift. Gus had a ball scurrying around with Isaac -- picking up a snake, finding weird holes in the ground, getting into lots of second-grade mischief.
After we got back, we ate dinner, then made our way to the pavilion. Magnus had an absolute ball listening to the music, Gus ran wild, Mom brought stuff for s'mores to share with all the kids -- a good two dozen kids flocked to us when she pulled them out. I had not seen Gus for 20 minutes or so when he came running by and said, "Dad! I'm going in!" In where? "To the giant pine cone war!" And I looked toward the tree line and saw pine cones flying every which way. Mom and Magnus danced and danced and danced to the music and I loved watching them. It was such a great night. Such a great day.
We're can't wait until next year.
