Every salmon season is a fishing tale. Not about the fish you catch--how many, or how big--but what you do to find those fish. The rituals, the commitment, the camaraderie. Didn't have enough time to conduct a real session so opted for recon with my new #budgetbfs rig: a Piscifun Phantom with an after market shallow spool and a Cabela's Tourney Trail Kokanee rod. #bfsfishing fever strikes again. Picked up a Phenix Feather light power rod to go with ANOTHER Fuego CT I got. This time it's the 8.1:1 gearing model. Planning on getting a purple shallow spool for it when Aliexpress gets them back in stock. In the meantime, I swapped the gold spool in from the Fuego 7.3:1. Took the whole package out for a spin on a beach known to produce some solid flatties. Compared to my #budgetbfs setups, this rig is a whole new level of flounder pounder! That makes three purchases made under the "influence" of @jnewwie. 😁 At this rate, my wife won't have anything left to buy me for Christmas!

My first fishing rig was a fiberglass Shakespeare spin cast combo. It was the gateway drug to what later blossomed into an obsession. I jumped from that platform to spinning gear, to fly fishing with single handers, then to spay and switch rods, and now to BFS. It's both ironic and fitting, then, that in my hunt to assemble viable #budgetbfs hardware, I would come across this setup. For nostalgia's sake, I'll try and stick a few fish with the ol' spincaster before vetting the stick as BFS ready. More to come on both soon. #bfsfishing

Finally broke in the new UL baitcaster and then went back to the two-hander for some salty char action!

More practice with the baitcaster yielding positive results.  Think the reel color had anything to do with it?  :)
