DOLLAR LIZARD MONEY ZOMBIE - REMIXES As HMS Morris celebrate a year since the release of their album 'Dollar Lizard Money Zombie', the band will be announcing some special treats…  The first is the release of an EP of remixes which will be available digitally on the 27th of September. The EP calls on friends, including Llion Robertson of Siula - who produced the album in it’s original form - to re-imagine a song of their choice from the album. The other remixers include Huw V Williams, Sachasom and Canadian artist, Maïa Davies. Off the back of the release, HMS Morris will be performing at the Welsh Music Prize award ceremony on the 8th October, where the album is also been shortlisted for the prize. The band will also be on tour to celebrate the anniversary and the release. 

News: The Gentle Good releases new album - 'Elan' via Bubblewrap

Cardif Singer-Songwriter Gareth Bonello aka The Gentle Good releases his brand new album 'Elan' via Bubblewrap Collective.

The Elan Valley was flooded between 1893 - 1904 as part of the Elan Valley Water Scheme, which was built by the City of Birmingham. Four dams were constructed, including Caban Coch and Craig Goch, to create reservoirs. The scheme involved damming the Claerwen and Elan rivers and building an aqueduct. This resulted in the eviction of over 100 people, demolition of buildings, farms, a church, and two mansions. The first dam was flooded in 1896.

'Elan' is a protest album that brings to the forefront the flooding when 100 people had to leave their homes so that the valley could provide drinking water for the city of Birmingham. Its 12 farms, school, chapel were all lost to the water.

'Elan' is a sublime body of work that educate's, liberate's and resonates.

Written in an off-grid cottage during a year- long residency in the Cambrian Mountains, The Gentle Good’s new album ‘Elan’ is a psychedelic portrait of Cwm Elan (the Elan Valley) in Powys, Wales. Featuring songs in both Welsh and English, Elan explores issues of culture, politics and identity through the history and folklore of the valley, which was flooded in the Victorian era to provide drinking water to the city of Birmingham.

Recorded at Tŷ Drwg Studios, Cardiff with sound engineer Frank Naughton and musician Andy Fung, Elan is the sixth studio album from The Gentle Good. This latest offering sees the award- winning songwriter embrace a wider sound pallet, that does justice to the vast and dramatic landscapes of the Elan Valley. In contrast to the stripped-back acoustic intimacy of its predecessor Galargan, the new record Elan incorporates a full band, complete with layered vocals, electric guitars, vintage synths, flute and French Horn. Adventurous string arrangements by composer Seb Goldfinch sit beside distorted guitars, sparse piano and eerie synthesisers.

A sparkling variety of musical ideas illuminate the album, which includes brand new collaborations with Rajasthani folk pioneers SAZ, indie-folk-pop daredevil Laura J Martin and Radnorshire guitar virtuoso Toby Hay. A unique record that flows like a river through the ever-changing landscape, Elan is a bright new addition to the rich heritage of Welsh psychedelic music.

Video: Part Time Signals - Look Out The Other Window

Cardiff's Part Time Signals return with brand new single 'Look Out The Other Window' which boasts an ever maturing sound and see's the band move into more dynamic and exciting territory.

'Look Out The Other Window' is soulful voyeurism, proximate and is testimony to the band's ability and multi-instrumental arranging.

Look Out The Other Window is the second single from The Window, a forthcoming 5-track EP from Cardiff four-piece Part Time Signals.

This song, out last Friday, is the sequel to Look Out The Window, a song which concludes the band’s debut album Another Day In Paradise (2023), and knowingly alludes to and draws from other songs in the band’s catalogue.

The four-piece are back and will be released their new 5-track EP March 14th via Cardiff's Bubblewrap Collective, having already shared the first single from the EP “The Window”, the band have now unveiled their second track titled “Look Out The Other Window”.

Part Time Signals are a four piece band from Cardiff, Wales. Jacob Church (Sock), Michael Blanchfield (ANGHARAD), Gavin Jenkins (Rainbow Maniac, KEYS, Show Dogs) and Sam Barnes (Boy Azooga, AhGeeBe, Sock). Their full-length debut album ‘Another Day In Paradise‘ was released 20th October 2023 with Bubblewrap Collective both digitally and with a limited run of vinyl copies. 

After recording their first album, BBC Horizons funding made it possible for the band to spend a whole week recording at Giant Wafer Studios in Mid Wales. The band are currently gearing up to release a 5 track EP titled ‘The Window’. The EP will serve as a precursor to the band’s second album which is set to be released later in the year. Making full use of the instruments, recording equipment and time available at the studio, this hefty recording session has seen the band take stock with a plethora of new songs, evolving into amore refined and maturing sound.

The song was self-recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in Mid Wales in February 2024, and features a multitude of layers including hand-played drums, phased guitars and percussion. The recording was mixed & produced by the band’s bassist Sam Barnes.

The band’s first release since reforming as a family of four offers up a bouncy art-pop collage dealing with the dissonance between Heledd’s roles as a dutiful west-Walian daughter on one hand, and as a badass creative force to be reckoned with on the other.

Despite the general global turmoil of the last few years, HMS Morris have had a pretty good time of it since their last release, Pastille EP, in December 2020. They’ve branched out into composing for theatre and television, added two new members to the crew (danger-hips guitarist Billy Morley and renowned Kermit impersonator Iestyn Huw Jones on drums), and have more or less settled into the idea of being in their 30s.

Their new live show reached maturity last summer with two very special fully-costumed 7-piece performances at the Eisteddfod in Tregaron; now Family Souls marks the beginning of a new phase in their careers as recording artists. After an introduction of sampled strings, drum loops and bratty BVs, a riff-led verse finds lead singer and lyricist Heledd Watkins berating herself for her inability to perform properly in front of her family.

Her inner-critic is annoyed and confused, but this is a problem for a lot of artists; how do you reconcile the persona you’ve cultivated in order to give yourself creative freedom with the image that’s held by those who raised you? Or at least, the image that you imagine they hold – as the song passes through a dreamy bridge into a low-key funky chorus, the narrator realises that she probably doesn’t know what they’re thinking after all. Despite the unshakeable conviction that you know these people on a deep level, ultimately you cannot read their minds, and it might be an idea to actually talk with them.

Treating your parents like people in their own right, how terribly grown up! Family Souls will be released on Bubblewrap Records on April 7th , and will be available on all major digital services.

Premiere: Ritual Cloak + Autumn Juvenile - ‘National Anthem’ 

Following on from lead single ‘You’re The Summer’, ‘National Anthem’ is the next offering from the collaboration between the Cardiff electronic post-rock duo Ritual Cloak, and writer, comedian and spoken word performer Autumn Juvenile. The track is taken from: 'A Human Being is the Best Disguise’, which is a reworking of Ritual Cloak’s self-titled debut release, with new lyrics and vocals by Autumn Juvenile. Autumn Juvenile outlines the thinking behind ‘National Anthem’: “This is about Cardiff and the UK becoming a building site. It is about a vision of the high street becoming a shanty town for spice addicts. It is about the bureaucrats who wave the dragon flag with shit-eating grins as they turn our homes into dormitories for students and hoteliers. I vividly remember writing this in my manager’s office at work, looking out over the well-kept back gardens of Pontcanna. Two unused lines: ‘For the uncle who called me a faggot/I’m happy being a maggot in the apple’; ‘I would say I have a massive chip on my shoulder, but I don’t want to lean into the stereotype that all Welsh people eat is chips’” National Anthem is set to Unearthed from the album, Ritual Cloak. The album was recorded at Kings Road Studios, Cardiff, produced by Ritual Cloak and Autumn Juvenile and mastered by Charlie Francis. It also features vocals from Jemma Roper, as well as Ritual Cloak’s Daniel and Andrew. The cover photography is by Daniel Barnett. Ritual Cloak is comprised of Daniel Barnett, formerly of the band Samoans, and drummer / producer Andrew Sanders. The duo met in 2013 after Daniel answered an ad for a guitarist to join the backing band for singer Jemma Roper. An instant kinship was struck, with both Daniel and Andrew embracing experimentation and a shared love of electronic music. After the split of Samoans in 2018, the pair began playing around with instrumental textures and piano-led ambient soundscapes, all resulting in their well-received self-titled debut in 2019. They followed this with their second album, ‘Divine Invasions’, released on Bubblewrap Records in 2021.

As Ritual Cloak’s sophomore album draws closer, we’re excited to bring you another nugget from the much anticipated long-player. 'High Teens, Low Twenties' will be released digitally on the 2nd April 2021. The track follows in the vein of the previous singles 'Opaque Crater' and 'White Noise' with the duos unique approach to post-rock, cinematic soundscapes. The band explain the process of recording the song: "High Teens Low Twenties is one of our favourite tracks to come out of the second album's recording session. It came about as Dan had forgotten he'd stored a reversed loop of a simple arpeggio on his loop pedal. When we were setting up in the studio for a session Dan clicked the looper on as it was flashing and this sound just burst out! We both looked at each other and got to work immediately, and the song was pretty much finished by the end of that day."
