doc brown asked marty to meet him at night to test the car, not because no one would be around-- but because he perfers to work at night.
working through the night means he doesn't sleep, not sleeping means no nightmares. no nightmares that replay him standing there watching trinity, no replays of him hearing the radio. no reminders that he helped kill hundreds-- no, THOUSANDS of innocent civilans.
So, many know the....interesting...art direction of the Back to the Future IDW comic run Continuum Conundrum. So, here's some scenes from the movie if Marty was built like he is in Continuum Conundrum.
I'm so sorry
(IDs in alt text to specify who drew each one. I have some posts detailing all of the art styles here, too.)
Favourite BttF comics artist?
Marcelo Ferreira (all of Continuum Conundrum, Hard Time, and Time Served)
Áthila Fabbio (most of Continuum Conundrum and Time Served, with Ferreira)
Emma Vieceli (all of Who Is Marty McFly?)
Alan Robinson (all of Biff to the Future & Citizen Brown, and Jurassic Biff)
Megan Levens (all of Tales from the Time Train)
Brent Schoonover (one comic, When Marty Met Emmett)
Dan Schoening (one comic, Looking for a Few Good Scientists)
Chris Madden (one comic, Science Project)
Corin Howell (one comic, In Search of Calvin Marty Klein)
Ryan Browne (one comic, Peer Pressure)
Erik Evensen (one comic, Emmett Brown Visits the Future)
Wow. Even when they first met, he couldn’t bring himself to lie to Doc. Really shows what kind of person Marty is though. It also mirrors that moment when he revealed he was lying to Emmett in the game. Whether it is ultimately for a good cause or simply to get someone from pummeling him, he can’t bring himself to do it.
I also love that Einstein immediately takes to him. (I wonder if it’s implying that it isn’t the first time they met or if that was legitimately the way their bond started but it’s sweet nonetheless) Doc is 100% right. That dog is a great judge of character.
I love how Marty is also nice to him. Not really fearing him despite the traps, puzzles and warnings about him. The shop owner literally said he’d probably die going to his place. He just casually asks about stuff. I love that he didn’t buy into any of it. It’s probably because he’s also heard bad things about his own folks so he rather get to know someone first. Not buying into the rumor mill.
Not only is this a place where he can practice his music, hangout with Doc and Einstein, but also have it as a safeguard from his bullies. Too petrified of going anywhere near there.
Doc excitedly retelling the tale of how he and Marty met to his kids (casually skipping over his own childhood lmao) is so sweet. You really can see just how much they mean to one another in practically everything they’re in.
Verne falling asleep in Doc’s arms while listening to the story 🥺

Okay, I’m new here. Are the comics and the game canon or can I do whatever I want?
hii i recently started reading the back to the future comic which i saw you post about, so obviously you've read it. i wanted to ask if marty seemed kinda.. out of character to you? i know characters get butchered in comic adaptations all the time, and i don't really mind comic marty, but i just can't imagine movie marty saying or doing most of this stuff. i can't name anything specific, sorry, it's just his whole essence kinda. i guess.
love your posts btw <3 keep it up
Hi! Yeah, I agree that Comic Marty was kind of off. It's been a while since I read the comics, so I can't pinpoint anything specific either, but I know there were little moments here and there that were just. Un-Marty-like.
And I get it to an extent because it's a comic series, so there might be some tweaking of the characters to make things more "exciting" and "action-ey," but there were plenty of times during my read-through where things just felt a little too off. Especially with Doc and Jen, who I think suffer the most in terms of having their characters butchered. (They TOTALLY messed Jennifer up)
I still do like the comics; they're a fun little extension of the movies, but they also feel detached from it in a way. If you go into them knowing you aren't going to have "your" movie characters, though, it's still enjoyable.
Thanks for the ask! Glad you like my blog :)
