He looked down at Rachel’s present with a smile on his face. She’d given him the idea without telling him directly it was what she wanted. He got it, though, and headed out to the nearest shelter yesterday morning. He didn’t want to give the little kitten enough time to get used to his place, mainly because he wasn’t allowed to have pets. He’d called to check on his townhouse status yesterday and was told that he could check back after the first of the year. They were going through a round of PCSs and there should be some more opening up then. It made him feel better because he wanted the chance to see Rachel more often and for longer periods of time and if he had a townhouse, that could happen. He just wished it would happen while she was on break so they could have more time together. It was really all he wanted right now. He thought they were doing good with their rebuilding of their relationship and he wanted to continue it.

“Okay, buddy,” he said as he shut down his computer and lifted the kitten up. “We’ve got to go to Mommy’s house where you’re gonna live. I’ll tell you everything you need to know along the way.” He scooped the now-wriggling cat up and put him in the carrier he got, a big red bow on it, and made sure he looked okay. It was Sunday and the last day of Hanukkah and he likely wouldn’t see her for her birthday so he was going to order them a big dinner when he got to her place, but he needed everything to be perfect. The kitten was clawing to get out of his carrier and Finn lifted it to eye level. “I know it sucks but in, like, twenty minutes you’ll be out and in your new house with your mommy so if you could just chill, that would be great.” It started meowing loudly so Finn just rolled his eyes, tucked his tags under his shirt, grabbed his things and headed out.

He made his way to the gate and met the cab that he’d called, sliding in and giving Rachel’s address. “Okay,” he said as he lifted the carrier onto his lap. “Number one, don’t be offended if Mommy doesn’t think you’re perfect. She won’t get rid of you either way but she might tell you your meow isn’t on pitch or whatever. Ignore her. I like it just fine. And then Uncle Kurt lives there too. Do not, under any circumstance, let him dress you up in anything. Scratch bite, pee in his bed … whatever you have to do. No stupid sweaters or bells though, man. Don’t let it happen.”
