Congratulations to the #SJSUMeatlessMondays team for winning first place in the Community Action Project Competition for COMM 168, Global Climate Change! COMM 168 is a 9-unit, two-semester course that applies scientific and social scientific approaches to the process and effects of global climate change. Students in this course work hands-on developing projects and campaigns to mitigate or adapt to the impacts of global climate change. #SJSUMeatlessMondays, a group of mostly COMM majors, started a Meatless Monday campaign on campus and inspired the SJSU community to choose to eat meat-free every Monday for March and April. The team members aimed to inspire more people to look past identity politics and participate in a global movement to reduce their carbon footprint, one Monday at a time. Out of 18 groups and 6 that moved on to the final round of presentations, #SJSUMeatlessMondays was picked by three external judges for its creativity, presentation, and project's overall impact. Join the team's Facebook and Instagram accounts to be part of the movement.
SJSU and the nonprofit Braven have developed a 3-unit leadership and career accelerator course listed as Sci 75/Sci 125 on MySJSU. The goal of the course is to ensure students gain the professional skills, confidence, networks, and experiences needed to graduate and transition into strong first jobs or into graduate school. Throughout the course, students will:
Network with professionals in the Bay Area and build community with their peers
Plan their career roadmap with support from a mentor from Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Thermo Fisher, Teach For America, and many more companies
Build and refine their professional portfolio (i.e., resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, elevator pitch, interview practice, project plans)
Complete a design-thinking challenge with their team for a local corporate partner
The course meets once a week on Tuesday or Wednesday from 6-8pm either at SJSU or off-campus at an employer partner’s office. Spots are limited, and students are accepted on a rolling basis. Dr. Melanie McNeil from the College of Engineering is the Professor of Record for the course.

is a Winter 2019 faculty led study abroad program. The application is open until April 30. Space is limited! Students can stop by HGH 243 Mondays and Wednesdays 12:00 - 1:00pm to ask any questions regarding the program during China Study Abroad Office Hours.
