captain flint's line "it's done, wouldn't you agree?" (his first line in the whole series btw) being the last line before the opening credits in the first episode is INSANE holy shit
Black Sails will have you discovering new horrible emotions you didn't know existed. Eleanor resisted committing to Max or Charles Vane, choosing her own ambition over love, and when she finally chose love it was explicitly the actions of her husband that killed her. Miranda told Flint she wanted to see the whole city burn and his efforts stemming from that night eventually led to Eleanor handing Madi a piece of flint which lights the fire that burns down the home she fought for so long to find peace in

Like ON THE ONE HAND. I Know that the reason we learn about Thomas in s2 is becuase it Makes Sense for a Narrative Arc especially given how much s1 was still trying to bait and switch the GoT crowd into watching something . well. like This. But on the OTHER hand I am so so so normal about the fact that Flint successfully convinced himself he didn't need to think about falling in love with Thomas, didn't need to think of Thomas as anything other than a driving figurehead of his ideology (and sometimes, in his most vulnerable moments, as a symbol of the loss binding him to Miranda), but the MOMENT Silver gets let off of Nassau and both 1. back onto the Walrus and 2. Directly into Cahoots with Flint's plans is the Exact Same Moment we start to see Flint remember what happened last time he had a grand plan and let himself be partnered to another man about it. Like Flint CLEARLY KNOWS so so early and so fundamentally that if this Strange Pair continues he's going to fall in love with Silver, and one of them is going to die about it. Fully what, two ? seasons before Silver articulates a similar point re What Happened To His Previous Partners. Flint knows this he's already feeling it happen again. And it's going to happen again. It happens again. We sing it again. And again. And again.

madi is such an incredible casting and the way the writing treats her upholds that so well. in XXXI when featherstone first meets her, he automatically stands up. She commands such respect with just her presence, even in travelling clothes. He sees from the way everyone around her holds themselves who she is. He doesn't hesitate, he doesn't lump her in with his idea of what a black woman is in society, he instinctively knows she's royalty and acts accordingly. (I imagine working for max for so long primed him for that in some way, but max, for all her power, has this undercurrent of insecurity, of looking for escape routes guiding all her actions, and until marion guthrie every single person who meets her thinks of her as a whore first.)
For a show that constantly questions authority, that proclaims over and over that the power of aristocracy is a lie and a blight on society, that goes to great lengths to show how even the protagonists, the pirates are corrupted by their power, it was such a fascinating choice to have the only unquestioned power belong to a black queen (princess).
Madi is sometimes shown by the narrative as naive, in the sense that she doesn't know much about society outside the island, doesn't know her place in the society outside the island, but she is never shown to be wrong because of that. Her confidence, her authority is her right. The pirates define themselves in oposition to englands rules, englands power, but she exists outside them entirely. Her very presence is proof that there can be a world without the empire.
FIRST fucking EPISODE. planting the seeds of the narrative etc. im going insane
no wonder silver got so cocky so fucking fast he literally just smiled at flint and flint was like "ok, take him aboard" like who wouldnt be cocky if their boss defied all of his advisors just because you have darky shiny curls and sky blue eyes. maybe you even wink a little bit!
