Chloe, Bryan, Paige, Aziz, and Monty’s reasons for joining are revealed.

This is the first episode since “Smooth Moves” where Bryan talks.

Despite both having repeatedly appeared in the interim, this is the first episode since “You Live Like This?” where Ingrid has extended dialogue and Bryan speaks at all. Fittingly, that was Ingrid’s previous focus episode.

This is the first six page comic since “Factory Reset”, back in episode 22. This is also the first episode Geneva speaks since then.

This is the first episode since “Walking the Dog” where Ingrid and Geneva appear together.

The second page was the last to be added. It was made to make the conversation feel less one sided and to give Ingrid a little more depth. In general, the actual script deliberately gives Ingrid more characterization than was originally storyboarded.

This is Clarence’s first voiced appearance since “Leveling the Playing Field”.

This is the second episode where Lyman directly and deliberately views a person’s memories, the first being “Look Deep Inside”. While she’s not seen in detail, unlike Chloe in the aforementioned episode, Young Ingrid’s design (top of his right eye, bottom right of his left eye) is borrowed from her chibified design shown in “You Live Like This?”, as denoted by her hair curving downward instead of pointing up. The other memories shown feature her as an adult, Geneva and Lyman himself being visible in two of them.

When Lyman turns to look at Ingrid after his monologue, he very briefly loses his cleft lip in a rare occurrence.

This is the second episode to feature one of Aziz’s editing notes and the first to feature multiple. The second note establishes the series-long running gag of Geneva butchering complex words. Additionally, the monitors behind him once again show him editing a previous episode. In this case, it’s “The Evils of Lies and Hate”.

No orange, yellow, violet, or gray Drewmans physically appear, and if you exclude Aziz, exactly two of every remaining color type appears throughout. That being said, Landon appears on a monitor and he, alongside Violet and Martin, are mentioned by name.

None of the core six appear, aside from Rudy and J. appearing on Aziz’s monitor.

As of this episode, Lyman’s skin is slightly less yellow, mirroring a similar change in his Rough Sketch incarnation.

Geneva’s badge has been changed from the abstract shapes to the stars on her sweater as of this episode.

Ingrid’s skirt bunches up when she’s having her brief freakout. She doesn’t bother fixing it afterwards, and it becomes part of her standard design for half of the season going forward.

In general, Ingrid’s calmer characterization here is highly reminiscent of how she was portrayed in Rough Sketch, being far more angst ridden, socially awkward, and moody.

Clarence and Geneva’s last exchange reflects how he was in Rough Sketch while she wasn’t (and is in fact a partial replacement of him), but in-universe is meant to be taken literally.

While the seeds for Chloe/Geneva, Angie/Bryan, and Rudy/Olive have been sown before this episode, this is the first episode to actively focus on a pairing outside of Violet/Gordon (who are already married anyway) and Tyler/Fuchsia (who haven’t technically had a focus episode about them as a duo yet).

I’m not actually showing anyone the full picture until Season One’s actually finished, but here are some of my favorite ICT summer fashion pieces!

See, the joke is that “Season Two” in this case literally means it takes place over the course of three months.

Despite all three debuting in the third episode and appearing together multiple times in the interim, this is the first time the Pastel Trio all have dialogue in the same strip (although Peony doesn’t technically speak).

This is the second episode to prominently feature a character’s relative outside of the regular cast, the first being Admiral in “No Strings Attached”. In this case, Jo appears in her usual design in contrast to the deliberately chibified Admiral.

Noah’s playboy traits are properly established here, hitting on Whitney and Bryan and bridal carrying Peony after she falls into him.

Lyman’s jacket and Peony’s scarf aren’t seen in this episode.

As of this episode, Whitney’s facial structure is slightly altered to look more streamlined from the front.

No violet or yellow Drewmans appear; an orange only appears via photo.

This episode reveals Jade and Nathan to be living in the CLC and that the volume up until this point has been over the course of two months.

Bryan’s crack about Lyman never sleeping in his room is a callback to how he was sleeping on the (completely different) couch in “‘Ello, Elo, Y’ello”, which was also the first episode to portray them living together.

This marks the first appearance of Eloise and Amber, having gone by “Skye” and “Charlie” in the old continuity. Incidentally, Olive and Paige used to have their names.

This is the first episode since “Back Again, I See” in which all six core characters appear.

Lyman is seen without his jacket, Bryan his vest, and Peony her ascot for the first time. We also see Peony’s hair down.

No Grey Drewmans appear. Geneva is also the only Red Drewman in the main cast to have debuted by this point and not be present.

Peony’s parasol debuts here.

This episode ends a mini-arc starting with “Violet and Scarlett” where the door is busted down.

Nobody in the Oobay-Monade household is seen in their regular clothes. This is subsequently the first time J.’s eyes are seen in full.

Chloe wears a sleep mask, much like her original continuity counterpart did.

Violet: It’s amazing what you can accomplish through emotional suppression!

Rudy: You middle urinal of a living being. 

J.: You can’t kill me in any way that matters.

Gordon: We can’t kill you at all!

Angie: (About to punch someone) I think this needs a woman’s touch.

Gordon: I wanna do something so out of character the message boards will whine about for years to come!

Chloe: (Collapsed on the ground, deadpan) Want some blood? I’m clearly not using it.

Bryan: Unyielding rage, my old friend, how I’ve missed you!

Peony: I…I never want to hear any of those words again.

Geneva: Not even “the”?

Peony: ESPECIALLY NOT “THE”!

Lyman: I can see your intrusive thoughts.

Coco: Everyone shut up, I’m dissociating.

Aziz: Why are you this kind of person?

Noah: Hey, if I hit on every available adult in the vicinity, statistically somebody has to love me back.

Whitney: It’s like they always say, “if your life is without order, make the lives of others shorter”!

Tyler: What, you think you’re better than me?

Martin: As someone who has no self-esteem, yes.

Ingrid: Tonight, girls become women, and boys…(brandishes hedge clippers)

Geneva: Whelp. I guess I’m the voice of reason now.

Tyler: Oh, you SON OF A…Tanner, what’s our age rating?

Tanner: My mom watches this show.

Tyler: Jerk.

Olive: (About her drawing) Be honest, but please remember I’m holding a pointy object.

Tanner: Sorry, brah! I can’t hear you over my outdated nineties’ slang!

Paige: (To Martin) You sure do talk a lot for someone nobody listens to.

Scarlett: Can somebody just say the title of the episode so this whole thing can end?

Aziz: You don’t even deserve to hear my lame excuse. I’m out of here.

Sylvester: I’m right behind you, aren’t I?

Crimson: Turns out putting up emotional walls is terrible for your social life. Who knew?

Martin: Guys, you can’t just pressure him into this! He’s a person with his own feelings and desires!

Alexandre: (Genuinely confused) No I’m not!

You Live Like This?

After being mentioned in the previous comic, this marks the debut of Oz Square, the Bad Part of Town and the first time we see one of the subdivisions of Dullsville outside of the one the core cast lives in.

This marks the first appearance of Tyler in the It’s Color Theory universe, having gone by “Ringo” in Rough Sketch. This also marks the debuts of Bobbie, Charlie, and Dwight.

Tyler being the guy Ingrid and Geneva had previously beat up off screen was decided after the previous comic was written but before this one was. Adding him in made his introduction easier. The girls’ mentioned landlord would’ve filled his approximate role.

Siren was originally going to be the one to drop them off. This was scrapped both for pacing and because it would leave Rudy, Angie, Chloe, and Bryan stranded in Oz Square, the Bad Part of Town.

No Yellow or Gray Type Drewmans appear.

This is the second episode in which someone dies. In this case, Tyler is hit in the head by a door.

Ingrid’s parents (Alyson and Phyllis) and Geneva’s grandfather (Ezra) all cameo as pictures in the background.

A month passed between when the story was boarded and when the dialogue was written, meaning several details changed: The cutaway when Rudy is talking to Tyler originally had dialogue; Geneva was initially meant to cap off her story with something to the effect of “And that’s how I met your mother”-this was changed to prevent her from dropping two non sequiturs in a row; similarly, she was meant to misidentify Tyler as a tax collector, Ingrid’s nonchalant response serving to correct her; Rudy’s appeal to Tyler was initially to unconvincingly promise Ingrid and Jen wouldn’t attack him again, to which Tyler agreed to (the fact Rudy was already sporting a smug expression made it easy to change to a threat); finally, Bryan and Geneva’s final exchange was initially a one liner by Angie.

Tyler was completely right. He’d destroy Ingrid and Geneva in a fair fight since Geneva lacks technique and Ingrid isn’t all that strong on her own. Angie would’ve smoked him, though.

Siren let the girls go early on good behavior. Given that all the other law enforcers are superheroes that can level cities, she can afford to be lenient.
