Part of Tatsuya’s backstory

Eventually the group stumbled across a strange clearing, with a large dark portal above it. They look around to figure out what it is, Tatsuya on the other hand looks up at the portal...and has a very strange feeling, like somehow, if he could, he could reach out to that portal and go through it.

But then out of nowhere, the Shadow Lord’s faithful knight, Bruth, appears in front of them. Tatsuya and the others stand their guard as Bruth confronts them, saying that his master sent him to track down “the five runaways” and he will do everything to take them down. Tatsuya simply tells Bruth, “We still don’t know why your master sent these shadows to our world, but we’ll do our hardest to destroy it and save whatever remains!” and they proceed to fight.
