Drawing of Matagi, a famous Brumby stallion who was killed in a rentention zone.... I really can't express how angry I am. He was the only Palomino stallion... Like the real life Thowra from The Silver Brumby.

The brumbies of Australia face the risk of being shot from helicopters despite the wild horse management plan in place protecting them. 3000 brumbies are to be retained in the park, yet not even 1000 brumbies are left. Aerial culling will again be happening in Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales in June 2026. It's a barbaric method of population control that often leads to a slow and painful death for horses; Families get scattered, pregnant mares are forced to run for their lives, bellies, wombs, spines and chests pierced by bullets and the bodies are left to rot where they fell.
If you would like to help...
Send a clear message to the Environment Minister of NSW Penny Sharpe to:
🚫 STOP shooting Australia's brumbies
⚠️ RELEASE an accurate population count... AND
🚫 STOP trapping brumbies who have every right as per the management plan to live in the protected zones where trapping operations are now taking place.

List of introduced animals I would like to humanly get rid of (euthanasia) as I’ve seen what they do:
I will not be apologising
Peacocks - eat native reptiles and have been known to hurt small mammals
Rabbits - ecological destruction and competition with native animals
(North I believe) Pacific sea star (the yellow and purple one) - mass over population leading to habitat destruction and lack of food/resources for natives
Feral cats - average of 3 native animals killed a night toxoplasmosis kills even more
Feral horses - habitat destruction on an mass level
Camels - habitat destruction and competition with natives

Brumbies - wild horses - in Jindabyne, Australia. 2003.
what happens if i get you started on the whole brumby thing 👀
okay so i’m not as educated as other people on the subject but what i’ve gathered in my time spent around Horse People (tm) is that the government is lying about the amount of wild brumbies out there, greatly exaggerating their numbers in order to excuse routine culls and inhumane traps to free up land for human development. official reports say that there are over four hundred thousand brumbies across australia but other unofficial numbers claim much, much lower numbers.
now, like i said, i’m highly uneducated on the topic, and in all honestly my gut instinct is to say brumby culls are a necessary evil if the official number of them out there has any truth to it, but all the horse people i have talked to about the topic have claimed that the actual number is extremely low, down to only 2,000 in Kosciuszko.
so, i don’t have an official stance on the topic, and i know that the places i’ve worked (brumby sanctuaries, etc) are going to have biased viewpoints on the situation. at the same time, one group clearly has their facts wrong- and i’d like to know which.
