Clash of Seats [Levi | Reader | Highschool AU!]
One word - disgusted.
That was exactly how Levi felt at the moment.
The reason - a stupid bitch who took his seat on the bus, leaving him stiff and standing straight while trying not to touch shoulders with the desperate school girl on his right, the man picking his nose on his left reading the newspaper and the old lady in front of him, whose grandchild was staring at him as if he'd just proclaimed he was a serial killer on the run.
Everything and everyone smelled, and not of nice things like flowers or parfume, no - Levi was surrounded by weird smells and the overwhelming scent of sweat like a disgusting blanket nobody would dare wrap themselves in.
The kid in front of him and its grandma smelled like a bad type of corn - Levi couldn't possibly choose a better bunch of words to describe that with, just - a bad type of corn. The man on his left smelled like he'd made a run for the aftershave after a bath before slipping and forgetting about it. The girl on his right reeked in a very exaggerated way, like she'd put on too much parfume of the wrong brand and tried to cover it up by spraying herself with deodorant. The result of that mishap currently made Levi hold his breath as to stop himself from sneezing.
At that point of things he missed the middle aged women that wore heavy parfume and sat right by his side every goddamn afternoon. He preferred them to this any fucking day of the week. His legs would hold him, he concluded that much since he was on the track team, but he didn't think his mentality would turn out as loyal in regards of stamina.
Today just turned out to be the lucky day on which Levi forgot his earphones back at home, so his current choices of activity varied between listening to people's conversations or... listening to people's conversation, since people were fucking loud and that was exactly why he usually had his earphones on him. The main (and most obnoxious) thing falling straight into his ear-radar was the discussion four girls behind him led about something he hated with passion - boys. He concluded he was to be tortured by commentary on each girl's relationship and how well it was going whilst stumbling upon brief graphic opinions on how well his jeans looked from the back.
He wanted to rub his temples very very badly, but if he did that he'd make physical contact with the school girl on his right and that might give her the wrong impression about his intentions, not to mention an unneeded ego boost. His left arm was glued to his side and his hand was in his pocket as the other one clutched the holder on the side of the seat he was supposed to be sitting in.
At least the girl who took it had the guy picking his nose leaning on it and Levi concluded that wouldn't be a pleasant experience for her. The raven-haired male turned his head to the left and stared beyond the balding man's head at the girl on his seat. Technically, not his seat because he didn't legally own it but he did take it every damn time he got on the bus, so who the fuck did she think she was - coming along and stealing it like that?
Had it been any other ordinary day Levi would've gotten over it pretty fast and taken a seat elsewhere or even another bus, but now was rush hour during the busiest day of the fucking week (Monday), and as most people who had little patience, were going to be late to class and wanted to get on with their day, Levi wasn't in the mood for shit so early in the morning.
He'd already gotten used to being told that he was a clean freak, but honestly who in their right mind wouldn't be disgusted while riding in such conditions?
Well, he was almost 100% sure the girl on his right didn't feel as much abhorrence as he did, mostly due to the fact she was far too into 'the guy next to me is hot' land to function and her expression clearly showed it, but that was one out of a thousand different points of view. Reluctantly, his focus went back to the girl in his seat. The first thing he noticed was the way she wore her (h/c) hair in a messy bun and as his eyes slid down the lenght of her neck Levi's body welled up with an immeasurable amount of distaste because the collar of her blouse was totally his highschool's uniform blouse. At least he knew they'd be getting off on the same stop.
She had one of those things, what was the name--- ah, a choker. Yeah, that was it, Levi concluded as his eyes shone with remembrance at the thought.
Levi knew of a rumor, more like a ridiculous joke his friends had told him, that the lower a girl's choker stood on her neck, the better she could deep thoat. It was not only a disgusting piece of fiction but also a very big insult to females who just liked the accessory. Overlooking the jewelry, Levi continued his observations, though there was little left to see. The girl had an angular jawline, small silver earrings and (s/c) skin which suited her hair.
Having completed his analysis, Levi faced the front and the numerous scents he'd been ignoring whilst thinking of the girl unanimously slapped him across the face harshly, making his nose scrunch up in disgust. He was stuck there for ten more minutes - the expression that came with that realisation made him look like an actual serial killer on the run. Levi heard the kid in front of him gasp as his sharp eyes bore into the annoying child's orbs. It started tugging on its grandmother's sleeve and as a result she turned to look at the shame of a teenager Levi was with furrowed eyebrows. He held back the urge to roll his eyes at her and glare at he kid again.
This was going to be a long ride.
Less than two minutes later Levi's phone buzzed in the pocket of his jeans. Either Isabel or Farlan was texting him, or maybe it was both. He fished the device from his pocket and the bland grey homescreen lit up in his face, reminding him of its plain existence and how much it resembled every middle-aged person's homescreen. Levi glanced at the girl on his right, noticing she was trying to peek over his hand into his personal shit. His eyes narrowed and he sent a quick message to Farlan, who, by the biggest of coincidences on this earth, turned out to be the one messaging him.
At: 07:16 To: The Blond One hey, farlan, can i get some fucking help here, some brat's trying to read my text.
At: 07:17 From: The Blond One Sure thing. Delete my messages and I'll text you.
The raven-haired teen's eyebrows knitted together as he complied to his friend's request and pressed the 'delete' button from the menu. The blank screen reloaded and then a new text from Farlan popped up on the white background.
At: 07:17 From: The Blond One He'll be back at 6 p.m. His car is a black 2006 Mazda 2. His girlfriend won't be home until 8 p.m. so we have two hours to work with. The back door has a bad lock, if you jiggle it right it will pop right open. We can hide in the lounge and wait for him to sit on the couch. You can do the honours with the baseball bat this time. It's either a serrated or butchers knife this time. Then we go to work. So as long as we knock him out with the first hit it's all fine.
Levi hid the mischievous smirk that was about to split his face open ever so successfully and quickly joined Farlan in his roleplay, sensing the way in which the girl by his side slowly but surely froze in her tracks.
At: 07:20 To: The Blond One i've got the raincoats in the boot of my car, it should be enough to prevent stains if not, i've got some antiseptic just in case
At: 07:21 From: The Blond One I have a supply of cling wrap so we can protect the carpet. I also have a dissecting kit if necessary. Once he's dealt with, we can go upstairs and crack the safe.
At: 07:22 To: The Blond One how are we going to dispose of the body? i know we were tossing up between acid and landfill.
At: 07:22 From: The Blond One Better go with acid AND THEN landfill.
At: 07:23 To:The Blond One she fucking pushed her way through the crowd towards the middle of the bus. i'm trying so hard not to laugh
At: 07:24 From: The Blond One I'm cackling so loud, btw. Would've given a lot to see the girl's face. What's the rating?
At: 07:24 To: The Blond One 9/10, worthy of a shot and an honour place on the fridge
At: 07:24 From: The Blond One I bet it does. You should've taken a picture. Isabel would've liked it.
Levi glanced at the petrified girl briefly and the horror on her face brought him immense pain because he had to physically restrain himself from laughing. This was, by far, one of the best pranks him and Farlan had ever pulled. Levi sensed the bus slowly come to a stop and when it was no longer moving the balding man on his left hastened to make his way out of it. Apparently, this was his stop. As the bus sped up and resumed its ride, Levi's thumb typed a quick response to Farlan.
At: 07:26 To: The Blond One fucking shit, farlan. i think i'm gonna combust
Suddenly, Levi felt the bus come to a halt at a street light. The raven's body abruptly jerked to the side and smashed ever so ungracefully into the seat which he was supposed to be occupying. His phone almost went flying out of his hand but he came to realise that - even when his left shoulder felt sore and his mind was very disoriented, his fingers kept clutching the device. He looked like a rag doll glued to a wall.
When he came back to his senses, which happened almost right after his clash with the seat, Levi looked at the startled girl next to him - wide (e/c) eyes, which would've been pretty had they not been staring at him as if he were a complete freak, and white earbuds that stopped her from freaking out. Levi straightened himself out, or at least made a pitiful attempt to, as she took out a single earbud and furrowed her eyebrows in slight concern.
"Are you okay?" She asked in a hushed voice and Levi glared at her, which, unbeknownst to him, made her more confused than she already was. Suddenly, his body started going forward because of the abrupt turn the bus had made after the light turned green, and Levi's whole weight crashed upon the (h/c)-haired girl before either could react appropriately. He felt her hands collide with his face since its set trajectory was her chest as his own hands clutched the first steady flat surface they came in touch with, seeking support.
In the end, when Levi once again came to his senses, he was pinning the shell-shocked girl to the window of the bus, expression of utter bewilderment matching her own very closely. He knew people were staring at them, not so much because he could see but because he could feel their eyes on his back. His muscles were tense and his mind was on edge as he stared into the girl's (e/c) eyes from up close. He never would've guessed the supposed bitch who took his seat would be this pretty. Of course, the better option was for him to let that fact sink in now instead of let it ruin his speech for when their stop arrived.
Levi shook his head and his ebony locks swayed with the motion. Was he seriously thinking how unexpectedly pretty she was?
He blinked multiple times before standing upright, phone still in hand. Levi turned around as nonchalantly as possible and sat on the side of the seat before remembering that he had to check what Farlan had texted him. Prior to looking at the message his eyes glared at the majority of people who were trying to stare at him with prejudice, successfully transfixing their attention elsewhere. Levi huffed in satisfaction before scanning the screen of his phone and the text bubble on it from three minutes ago.
At: 07:27 From: The Blond One Levi Ackerman, are you really laughing on the public transport?
That certainly made him chuckle on the public transport. In his peripheral vision he could see the girl sitting behind him bashfully avert her gaze towards the window as she put her earbud back in her ear once she'd calmed herself enough. He paused momentarily before replying to Farlan, only because a sudden image of her face showed up in his mind and blurred the rest of his thoughts. He shook his head before checking the time - his stop was nearing, he concluded, and so was apparently hers.
At: 07:31 To: The Blond One not really, i got interrupted. i'll be at the gates in three, see you there
He saw the little 'k' that popped up on his screen before it went black and he put it back in his pocket with a small sigh. His backpack was slung over his shoulder and he could already see the school building down the road. He glanced back at the girl as she took her own backpack in hand and prepared to get off the bus. Levi made his way to the doors of the bus slowly, being twice as cautious because two fails in a row in front of one girl seemed like his quota of embarrassment for the day. Then he could feel her shoulder touching his as she stood next to him.
"Can we talk when we get out?" He asked absentmindedly, catching himself talking after he heard her answer.
"Sure." Her eyebrow twitched and it was obvious to him how confused she was but he couldn't back out now. Right after she agreed the bus came to an abrupt stop once again and Levi felt the female vainly struggle to sustain her balance. When her body jerked towards him he instinctively extended his arm and wrapped it around her shoulders - the result was her head hitting his chest with a soft thud. His expression was as stoic as they came, eyes staring down at the girl's red visage but she didn't seem as bothered by the fall as she was embarrassed by the act of him preventing her from smashing her face against the bus's door.
Levi huffed and his hand let go of her arm when the doors opened. He quickly made his way out of the bus and back into the much clearer air of the outside world. The girl followed a few seconds later; she kept staring at her feet intently prior to actually looking at him in the eye.
"So what is it?" She started uncomfortably, eyes straying to the side every few seconds only to return to his grey orbs. Levi's eyebrow raised at the happening. The girl was acting like he'd kissed her or something, when the only thing he did was catch her when she was about to fall. He had to put himself in her shoes for a second, though.
The situation from her point of view would be similar to: There's this hot stranger, who almost stuffed his face into my boobs, who says he wants to talk to me and I don't know him, but I'll accept since I don't know how he'll react to a 'no' and now I'm here with him staring me down weirdly after he saved me from falling and I don't know what to say.
Maybe that was the kind of thing crossing her mind at the moment.
"I just wanted to..." He trailed off slightly, becoming uncertain as his resolve faltered. At first he planned on scolding her for taking his seat but that way he'd seem like a complete asshole, had been the conclusion that seemed to befall him about three seconds ago.
Wait, what the fuck do I say? I need to stop acting like a goddamn asshole. I fucking fell on her, I looked like a creep and I've been cursing her just because she took an empty seat on a bus that's not even mine. What the fuck am I doing with my life? New plan, for a minute I'll try not to be terrible. I have feelings, I should try that shit once in awhile. Fuck, she's looking at me because I haven't said anything aloud. Okay, how did that sappy thing go, the thing with the---
"I wanted to say sorry." Oh shit, the S-word, and my voice is too damn squeaky. "I fell on you and shit, and it was partly the bus's fault, but mainly mine. Sorry for that."
Jesus, I sound like a school girl apologising to its crush. I see it all the time in Isabel's romcoms, but, fucking shit, I never imagined myself playing the girl.
"It's not a problem really. I'm sorry too, for hitting you across the face." She scratched the back of her neck and Levi saw her knuckles were kinda red. Wait, what was his face like then? Did she really hit him with her knuckles? Why wasn't he feeling anything? Not feeling anything was definitely bad.
"It's fine. It didn't hurt." His voice was cold, but definitely warmer than the one he was used to on a daily basis.
"Aren't you angry?" She blurted out suddenly, just as he thought he was doing fine and non-asshole-ly. What was he supposed to answer? What was he even supposed to be angry about? Subconsciously, Levi tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at the girl's irrelevant question. She switched feet as if her shoes were full of thorns. "Usually we're on the same bus and you always sit where I sat today. I could tell it wasn't a coincidence, so aren't you mad I stole your seat? To add to it, you had a horny school girl pressing to your side, a bunch of others discussing your ass and a kid that looked like it would kick your shin if you kept breathing. It must've been hell."
Hearing her say that genuinely stunned Levi. How was it that such a person existed? He concluded a bunch of people observed him but he never thought anybody would take interest in what was comfortable for him. Now this girl hopped out of the nowhere, asking if he was angry that she'd sat in a seat he didn't own for a twenty-five minute ride. What was he supposed to answer?
He was left speechless, staring at the girl and then staring again just to check if she was real. He blinked in her direction cluelessly, making her chuckle under his sharp gaze. Though her chuckle sounded like something he'd want to record and play on a loop til his ears bled he kept his composure in check. His orbs scanned her from head to toe before his lips parted - a small knot was present at the back of his throat.
"It's fine, really." Were the only words that managed to be heard out of the bunch he was thinking.
"I'm glad you're not mad. Now, as we cleared that out, we should go if we don't want to be late for first period." She smiled nicely, not daring to grab his hand and drag him after herself. She just gestured for him to follow her towards the school gate. Before he did, a small thought dawned on him.
"Wait a second, I didn't catch your name."
"That's because I never said it."
Fucking shit. He cursed mentally, the imprint of her smirk etched into his eyelids for the next few hours. All in all, Levi's morning was rather eventful and in the end of things - he would let that girl take his seat anytime if it would earn him a smirk like that each time.
