I remain a walking free advert for @teamniklasedin 😂 . . I enjoyed volunteering at OC Curling’s Open House last night and look forward to skipping a women’s team for Thursday league. I’ve never played in a league at OC before because of the time commitment both in terms of the length of the league (SD leagues are 5-6 weeks long, OC’s are longer) and the commute (it took me 2 hours one way to drive there last night), but I’ve been bit by the curling bug and both the drive and the curling are good for my mental health - brief escapism from my normal daily routine. Plus I keep trying to improve and get better. The extent of my Olympic dreams is just to make it as an alternate for @curlingpilipinas at an international event. Virtual #broomstacking or #zoomstacking started in the spring and went on for several weeks to cope w/ the pandemic. Today we had the #CurlerCookies #CurlersWhoCook challenge. I was extraAF & wore my Edin #Sweden jacket from @dynastycurling on Zoom in honor of what would’ve been ECC20 . . Been dealing w/ mom’s health issues lately & this cookie challenge was a good distraction. I baked #sugarcookies at midnight & didn’t decorate til this morning because I needed to sleep & do errands so I was an hour late to the shindig. I can’t believe people were baking & decorating cookies live on Zoom (pro tip today: bang the sheet). As for me, I was barely able to do this homage to @teamniklasedin & COVID’s effect on the #curling season scene off-camera, so there was no way I was gonna do this live. TBH I miss the more casual vibe of earlier broomstacking sessions where Malort played a big role and drinking games provided ample entertainment - that crowd would’ve loved my C19 “vaccine” reference. Yes, I have not one, not two, but three #cookie cutters of that shape in different sizes. These cookies were known as the Teen Center Cookies when I used to work in sex ed. . . IDK who the other judges are, but @c_hodgy at least appreciated the humor of my cookies. I suck at decorating in general so I had to Plan B the designs after I messed up Oskar’s name to start. LOL that the members of #TeamEdin are all in there, including the spare, but of course I made a 🐐 for @niklasedin because he’s the GOAT😂 #lilterror Which cookie do I eat first? . . Next week’s the Gingerbread Charcuterie Chalet Challenge & Curling Geek says I still owe him zombie cookies. I suck at decorating but luckily zombies are hella messy on purpose - blood & guts LOL. I’m a dork for not putting on lipstick before I took this #selfie Today’s #virtualbroomstacking theme was the #80s and I of course did not bother to practice my #makeup OOOPS. Excited for next week’s #broomstacking because the theme is the Kentucky Derby and Debbie from Alexandria is planning to make an appearance 😉 Mom thought it was pretty ridiculous I got all “dolled up” for a Zoom meeting w/ a bunch of curlers and curling fans. #vegan #foodporn alert! I went #broomstacking w/ some of the folks from Curl San Diego last night after the last game of spring league and I ordered the #buffalo #cauliflower #wings again. Woohoo for remembering to take a photo before inhaling it! I was actually hungry halfway though the game and was tempted to get both the #cauliflowerbuffalowings and fries 😂 The guys got their usual 2 plates of fries. I didn’t have any and now regret not getting some... Fries would definitely make me feel better right now - my car broke down on the freeway on the way home at like 1am. My first #curlingteam was in a trio w/ a father and son duo for winter league. They are not playing spring league so I’m on a new team now (more on that later). It’s been quite an emotional rollercoaster anticipating the start of spring league because I didn’t know which team I’d be assigned to, then I got assigned to a good team earlier in the week which made me happy, only to be told at #broomstacking that I’m on a different team.
