We are super proud of this deep dive into broom making in early colonial New England, and how broom making acting as an entry into the colonial American economy for a variety of different groups. Also: The Ox-Cart Man makes a cameo. Listen wherever you get podcasts!
Have you ever heard of broomcorn?
Yes
No
I had never heard of it before I researched our upcoming episode on brooms, and now I think of it as “fakey corn.”

The number one rule for properly caring for a broom is to always hang it up when not in use. All of our brooms have loops of leather (or twine in the case of some smaller hand brooms and brushes) threaded through the handle. Today I'm using an antique egg beater drill to make the hole for said loop. #brooms #broommaking #hangupyourbroom #ozarkfolkcenterstatepark #arstateparks #havencroftfarm (at Ozark Folk Center Craft Village) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBQ4TK-jRHt/?igshid=6036vle8zoqc
The shop at the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Arkansas is back open. It's so nice to be demonstrating broom making again. Made this Hens Wing Whisk today. Really like the colors! #brooms #broommaking #broomcorn #handdyed #handtied #handwoven #ozarkfolkcenter #arkansasstateparks #mountainviewarkansas #havencroftfarm #findusonetsy (at Ozark Folk Center Craft Village) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA083_Xj6gM/?igshid=ghdaperflm4m
