How they have conversations starts with teasing, and occasionally he’s nice, and he’ll take her seriously. That’s how they become friends, their friendship is highkey full of sass and text messages where he corrects her texts, and then there’s the heartfelt talks, and he’s never had a proper proper friend who he could confide in when he’s afraid. Or someone who is like helpful in sorting out his feelings. And Hiromi is the perfect balance of a friend and someone who is empathetic. But also they are also:

Brooklyn: So what’s your ideal sunday afternoon like?

Hiromi: A good book.

Brooklyn: AHAH. YOU ARE SO BORING. But also, yep same here.

Their teams do not know. I repeat. Their teams do not know. For them it’s just comfortable being together, over long distance, sending each other messages, meeting up whenever he comes to Japan. And perhaps they build legos together. They go to the park, and he sits on the swing, and she pushes him and he whines that she didn’t push him high enough. She also gets to whine and talk about her day, and um... he loves listening to her? 

And over the year, he comes by to visit her again, and she’s upset after something, and she starts ranting, and he wants to know why she’s so upset, and she’s like “You know I’m just mean and controlling and... I make a big deal over things.” And he sees her in color. He sees colors surround her. He sees her in bright beautiful shades. And he tells her this, and this is how they become a couple after she kisses him on impulse. and then apologizes for it, and he says no, it’s fine it’s just... he doesn’t have words for it. Hiromi feels like she’s ruined it all, and he’s like “Does this mean we’re a couple now?” 

And she’s never heard someone put it that way. But he’s also awfully poetic like that. He compares her to a summer’s day. You get the picture. 

So maybe one year later, at the tournament Mao notices that Brooklyn put a jacket on her shoulders, and they are basically minding their own business, and she playfully shoves him. They all think everyone is occupied, but Mao straight up asks them if they are dating.

Suddenly everyone notices them. EVERYONE including her team who she’s kept in the dark about their friendship and relationship. And they are both flustered, and Hiromi answers with the reddest possible face. 

“Y-yes.” 

At which, they all gape, and she gets angry.
