Pigment Printing: The Bromoil Process from the Negative to the Transfer by G. L. [George Leslie] Hawkins soon to be presented for sale on the fabulous BookLovers of Bath web site!
Published: London; Boston: Henry Greenwood & Co. Ltd.; American Photographic Publishing Co., 1933, Hardback in dust wrapper.
Signed by the author on the half-title page unverified and reflected as such in the lack of premium. Illustrated by way of: Black & White Plates [37]; Black & White Drawings [34];
From the cover: THE AUTHOR of this book is a practical worker in the bromoil process, an artist of many years experience and success as an exhibitor, one who regards his camera as only a mechanical implement which may, but more often does not, give him the pictorial impression he wants.
In this book he describes how he produces his pictures with the aid of the camera and, more particularly, his brushes and pigment.
He approaches the subject from an essentially practical point of view. Every stage in the operations he describes is illustrated, a logical sequence is maintained, and no detail is omitted. Variations of method are given for obtaining pigment prints of good quality from negatives which, previous to this work, would have been considered quite unsuitable as originals for bromoil printing.
Several methods are described, and illustrated, of combining two or more negatives in one print.
The illustrations show great diversity of subject-matter portrait, landscape, seascape, street, and harbour scenes and in themselves form an interesting collection.
Good in Poor Dust Wrapper. Unlaminated dust wrapper a little edgeworn and faded with loss at the head of the spine and several short tears. Gently bruised at the head, tail and corners of the binding. Edges of the text block lightly spotted. Pages lightly age-tanned.
Blue boards with Gilt titling to the Spine. 97 pages. 10¼” x 8″.
Of course, if you don’t like this one, may I draw your attention to more books hither or maybe further, hand picked, books in my Photograhy catalogue?
