Explain that you’re transgender and need a letter from a doctor stating that your change of gender to send to the Passport Office in order to change your gender marker.  Page 9 of this document has a template on it which you could take to help them, but the key point is that it contains the word permanent.

A solicitor is by far the most common kind of professional who can witness your statutory declaration, and there should be no particular need for them to be known to be trans friendly, as it’s simply a matter of completing the printed statutory declaration in their presence - they don’t need to know anything about the GRC process itself. It’s pretty much just a 5-10 minute appointment and they’ll charge you a fixed fee (should be around £5), as you just need to complete the details in their presence and then have them complete their part of the form.

If you’re getting no joy via email, it’s probably easiest to call, or pop into any nearby solicitor’s office and ask at reception. All they’re likely to need to know is that you’d like a statutory declaration witnessed - if there’s any other information they need, they’ll ask when they book you in.

All that being said - any followers have specific solicitor recommendations in Sheffield?

Did you get any instructions from Daventry re: blood tests before you transferred? If so, I would follow their instructions - even if you can’t send the results to the clinic it might still be helpful to have them. If not, then perhaps discuss it with your GP. Typically clinics don’t ask you for blood tests until you’re 3-4 months on testosterone so if you wait until seeing Nottingham it won’t be the end of the world, but for peace of mind it might be as well to get bloods done at the 3 or 4 month mark.

GPs often charge a little bit to write letters, so that’s fairly standard, but the main thing is that you’ll be able to update your passport.

Your GP should fill it out as they’re the ones making the referral, but they may want you to sit with them in an appointment to help them answer the more personal questions about you.

The other alternative, which I’ve heard some people do, and might be an idea if you struggle to get an appointment, is to fill out parts of it yourself, and ask them to get in touch if they need anything else from you.
