The rec room was suddenly being filled with water. Leila's nose scrunched and she brought her feet up from the floor onto the couch. "What? Is there a spider?" Cody asked. It was his break and Project Runway was on. Leila pointed a quiet finger towards the floor where it seemed a small layer of water was spreading out onto the rec room floor. Cody's eyes widened and he jumped as far back as he could on the couch. "Ew, what is happening?!"
Arya had lifted her legs up and held them to her chest tightly on the other, smaller couch. "What the fuck." She muttered. There were no words to express just how much she hated this place. Now, some water pipe had to have broken and there was some intense spill. Her hazel eyes peered up around the room to see a dark haired, blue eyed pair on a couch beside her. A girl sat by the window and a younger boy was playing a handheld video game. In the corner of the room was a boy a bit older than the younger one, looking calm but quite menacing as he looked at the younger boy as if he were bait.
"Alright!" An orderly yelled, coming into the rec room, making everyone look up. "Everyone out! Come, into another room now!" Cody groaned, planting his feet on the wet floor and making a disgusted face as he sprinted out the door of the rec room, Leila following him as well. Arya jumped from her small couch and bounded after them. The other brunette girl eyed the older of the last two boys in the room, and she hurried to the younger one as he started walking off carefully.
"Come," the brunette said. Kayla held her hand out for him to take. Zach looked up at her and smiled, taking her hand with a shrug as they headed out the rec room as well.
Finnick was the last one to leave, gritting his teeth that the guardian angel had sensed the vulnerability the younger boy had, and Finnick's quiet plans he had for him. Nonetheless, the room was indeed filling up from a pipe within the walls, and he groaned as someone else demanded him out from the room immediately--some other orderly. Finnick hurried at him in a blurred motion and cracked the orderly's neck before looking both ways, sensing where that angel had taken the boy, and he ran after them.
"Let's go, let's go, hop to." The first orderly said, ushering Cody, Leila, Arya, Kayla, and Zach into a rather empty room. Finnick followed quietly, but the second his entire body was in the room, the orderly slammed the door shut. For once, Finnick's usual annoyed, mischievous expression faltered as he turned around curiously to the door. He opened the door curiously and moved to step out back into the hallway but found that he couldn't. His eyes widened as he looked down at the small doorway's space. There was an invisible barrier. "No." He growled, slamming his fist into the wall.
Kayla arched an eyebrow as she settled against the wall with Zach. She peered down and saw nothing, but looked up slowly and saw that the ceiling was painted on. It was a devil's trap. "Good. Now I don't have to do anything to you because you're powerless." She sneered. Finnick turned around slowly to face the younger angel--younger, but still strong enough to stop him with whatever he wanted to do. The angel's smirk disappeared quickly, her brown eyes widening as the same orderly came back with a lit match and set it to the ground.
Suddenly, a ring of fire surrounded the room. It didn't advance anywhere and stayed on the holy oil she hadn't noticed. Kayla pulled Zach away quickly from the flames and glared at the orderly.
"Let me out." She demanded. The orderly merely smirked, shut the door and locked it, and walked away.
Arya, Cody, and Leila were huddled in the middle, staring at the door and the flames. "We're literally fucked." Cody whispered. He couldn't get to the door because there was a ring of fire right up against it. Either way, if he just stood behind it and stretched his arm to the door, it wouldn't do any good since the orderly locked the door.
"Why would he do that?" Zach asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Oh what luck, no window." Leila grumbled. "Just a lamp."
"Are you fucking kidding me right now, I cannot be stuck in a room forever." Arya scoffed, looking around. She sat herself down onto the ground, shaking her head. "Why would he do that?"
Finnick was growling darkly under his breath. He hated being so powerless and weak. He couldn't do a damn thing to even get out. The demon turned to face the door and endlessly slammed his hands and kicked his feet at the door furiously. "OI! OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR UP!" He yelled, jiggling at the door angrily, violently, but his strength was soft and it wasn't doing anyone any good. He yelled, turned to face the others in the room, and marched to a vacant corner in the room with a soft, dog-like growl sounding from him.
"So there's a demon in here, awesome." Arya muttered, looking up at the ceiling. "I get it." And she did. Thank god for the books Elena lent her or she wouldn't understand why a demon was locked in here.
"And an angel," Kayla voiced, stepping over to her with a soft smile. Zach was looking back at his handheld game which had coincidentally run out of batteries.
"Fuck." He muttered, stuffing the DS into his pocket.
Cody crossed his arms over his chest. The young doctor was highly annoyed. "Like, can he not." He rolled his eyes, sitting down beside Arya since... there seemed to be nothing else to exactly do in this situation but hopefully wait. Leila also sat down beside Cody, taking in a deep breath and letting it out tiredly.
Kayla glared off at Finnick, who returned the glare, and she turned to face Zach and sat down on the floor herself. She patted the space beside her invitingly. Zach sat down and threw his hands up in a shrug. "Oh well, right?" He asked.
"Oh well." Kayla agreed, twisting her mouth thoughtfully. She had seen in minutes why Finnick had thought to prey on him until she'd walked him out of the rec room. Zachariah was entirely vulnerable. He'd only just gotten out of the infirmary. He had nearly no memories of his past because of an illness that should've killed him had it not been for the sweet angel Karla. It was all planned. "So... you know about the angels and demons?" Kayla asked him curiously.
Zach nodded. "Yeah, yeah. I mean I've only been out two days and I know... because Karla told me." Zach shrugged. "And you're an angel, too, then?" Kayla nodded with a smile. "So that's how you know I'm kind of missing some screws in my head, huh?"
Kayla nodded slowly, tilting her head from side to side. "That is..." she sighed. "Definitely how I know. I apologize, I didn't mean to intrude."
"S'not like you intruded on much." Zach laughed.
"Hey," Kayla told him. "Don't say that. But... I was just worried."
"What for?"
Looking over at Finnick, Kayla sighed. "The demon." She said, nodding up at him before looking back at Zach. "He has this specialty with... choosing victims physically younger--or technically younger--than himself. And as you are fourteen and he is seventeen--but almost two hundred--you were a fine specimen to him."
"I can hear you." Finnick growled.
"I genuinely do not care." Kayla told him.
Zach knit his eyebrows together. "You were protecting me?" He asked with a small smile.
Kayla beamed. "That I was." Her smile faltered slightly. "I also know what it's like... to have very few, if not no, memories of your past." Her death was the only thing that replayed from her human life. That meant that there just had to be more of it. "All I know is where I... started from... again, I mean."
"Like how I only know things from two days ago, but know how to function nonetheless?" Zach asked.
"Yes, just like that!" Kayla grinned, happy that someone was understanding her confusing point.
In the middle, Leila was fanning herself with both of her hands exaggeratedly. "The fire is so hot in here." She whined. Cody and Arya slowly turned their heads to look at her with arched eyebrows. Leila looked at them and rolled her eyes. "Ugh shut up I'm bored." She folded her arms over her chest.
"How do we pass the time? Someone's gotta come find us at some point, right?" Arya asked.
"Theoretically speaking." Cody mumbled. He slid on the floor, lying down lazily and yawning. "But this might take a while... Wait!" He yelled, sitting back up as if he'd been electrocuted with an energy start. "We can play Concentration 64."
Leila started laughing and Arya's right eye nearly twitched. "You're joking." She said.
"He's not, he's so not," Leila laughed.
"Come on, redhead, don't tell me you've never played Concentration 64." Cody waggled his eyebrows at her.
Arya's eyes widened at him before she laughed. "Okay, one, it's strawberry blonde. Two, my name is Arya, and three, I have played it. I'm... just not good at it."
"Oh I have to play you, now." Leila gushed.
"Ok!" Cody exclaimed. Leila sat in front of Arya. "I'm Cody by the way, very nice to meet you." Arya smiled, shaking her head as she lifted her hands up over Leila's. "Go, I'll be judge."
"Concentration," Leila and Arya sang, slapping each other's hands up and down, then clapping their own three times. "64." And again. "No repeats." Again. "Or hesitations." Again. "I'll start" again. "by saying anything." Again. "Category is..." again. Leila was the one to decide. "80s Rock Bands,"
"Bon Jovi,"
"Arsenault,"
"Motley Crue,"
"Guns N Roses,"
"Aerosmith?"
"KISS,"
"Reo Speedwagon!" Arya laughed, spitting that out as fast as she could.
"Green Day!"
"No way,"
"Are you fucking serious," Cody clapped, dying of laughter as Leila pulled her hands away from over Arya's. Arya facepalmed herself and shook her head. "NO WAY? You couldn't ask about Green Day later?"
"Whoops!"
Finnick eyed Arya's hair as the three physically older people in the room continued to play their moronic game. Her hair was up, not down. What was tying it up? His eyes narrowed and he couldn't find anything, so he stood up and walked over behind Arya. Leila looked up at Finnick as he reached into Arya's hair and smacked his hand away. "Don't be rude."
Finnick's eyes narrowed. "You're very lucky I can't kill you right now." He glared at her momentarily before turning to walk back to his corner.
"We need to get the hell out..." Cody muttered.
"I wish we could call someone. That would be helpful." Arya said, sighing as she lay down on the floor. That gave Cody an idea. How stupid of him! His blue eyes widened and he shot up to his feet. "Oh my god!" He yelled, reaching into his pocket to pull out his cell phone."
"UGH THANK GOD YOU WORK HERE!" Leila screamed. Finnick turned around and crossed his arms over his chest, tilting his head at the strange device that was in the staff member's hand. What the hell was that thing? Kayla and Zach peered up at them and smiled hopefully.
Cody's smile quickly faded as he stared at his iphone. "No." There was no signal. "NO!" He yelled, dropping to his knees. "No bars!" Arya sighed and Leila groaned. Finnick, Kayla, and Zach look horrendously confused, neither of the three knowing what the hell a cell phone even did, let alone what the importance of bars were.
"Climb up on me." Arya said. "Like a pyramid!" Her eyes widened and she looked around the room. "We have enough people to make a pyramid."
"A what?" Kayla asked, standing up with Zach.
"We can't make a pyramid." Finnick told Arya as he stepped forward. They were all in the middle of the room.
"A human pyramid. Come on, let's do it." She got on the ground on her hands and knees. Leila did the same besides her. "You!" Leila said, looking up at Kayla. "Angel, next to me. Same thing." Kayla looked confusedly, not understanding what was happening, but she did as she was told. "Hold yourself with your arms as much as you can. Now... demon and Zach--"
"Finnick,"
"Okay, demon and Zach, climb up on our backs near the middle together."
"That's not a good idea." Kayla chimed in quickly.
"It's not like I can't hurt the lad with no powers." Finnick growled, his eyebrows arching with is words in annoyance. Zach looked at Finnick with an uneasy expression, but went over to climb up on the girls. Finnick rolled his eyes, thinking this was ridiculous, not believing he was even partaking in such a ridiculous event. Still, the demon was cooperating. He climbed up beside Zach and formed the second part of the pyramid. Cody then got up over them.
"You know," Cody began. "I didn't think this through." The phone was in his hand, but it was in an awkward position on Finnick's back as he tried to get signal higher up in the room. One bar was enough, but before Cody could dial, notifications on his phone started popping up. He clicked them instead and squealed. "I got 35 likes on my insta!"
"What's an insta?" Kayla and Zach asked simultaneously.
"I got 84 on my last one before they took my phone away coming here," Arya gloated proudly.
"I wanna see!" Leila exclaimed.
Finnick was annoyed. "If you don't call someone right now I will kill you with my bare hands." He threatened. Cody wrinkled his nose in annoyance, going back to the phonebook to dial numbers. Finnick, though, couldn't resist his demonic urges and lifted his right hand up, shoving Zach to the ground and causing everyone to fall.
Kayla was the one who stood up first from the ground. Her brown eyes shown a bright blue in anger as she stormed to the demon. "WHEN we are freed from this wretched trap, the first thing I am going to do is destroy you, damned demon."
"FUCK!" Arya yelled, lying on her back again.
"You okay?" Cody asked Zach sat himself up from the ground. He nodded and glared up at Finnick.
Leila did a lip trill, shaking her head, but her head snapped over to the door. The handle was shaking. "Guys..." she spoke. Everyone's head snapped over to stare at the door. It stopped moving for a moment and a key was inserted, and the door opened, revealing a dwarf man. The six people in the room hurried over to the edge of the angel and demon traps, looking at the small man with wide eyes.
"So sorry about that," the dwarf said. "My grandson seems to have a wicked sense of humor and has locked you all in here to rot. Don't fret, though." He pulled out a small flask, dropping water directly on a spot on the ring of fire, which immediately went out when the water connected with the flame and holy oil. His hand reached into a pocket to draw a small knife, and skillfully, he threw it up into the ceiling where the devil's trap was drawn, piercing one of the drawn marks to immediately break it. "Good day everyone." He said, and walked off to the left.
The six in the room stared, dumbfounded as the small man left and they scurried simultaneously to the doorway. Their heads poked out into the hallway, one head appearing above the other. Zach's was at the bottom, then Finnick's, then Arya's, then Kayla's, then Leila's, then Cody's. Staring off in the direction their savior had left, they found he was nowhere to be found even if the hallway continued for a long time.
"Where'd the imp go?" Zach asked. Arya, two heads above him, lightly flicked Zach's head.
"Don't be fucking rude." She said.
"Well... we can go... I guess." Cody mumbled.
"It seems so," Finnick agreed.
"Thank God," Kayla sighed.
Zach walked out the door first, and everyone else stepped from the door as well. "If it's... any consolation." Finnick began, rolling his eyes again. "I will find that demon and destroy him for entrapping me."
"And us," Kayla, added.
"I genuinely do not care." Finnick said, mimicking what she'd told him earlier. Her eyes narrowed at him and she took a threatening step forward before Finnick rushed off in a blur to escape her. She smiled proudly and turned around to Zach, Cody, Leila, and Arya. "It was very nice to meet you all. I do think... I would like to assist this one, though, for a moment." She said, talking about Zach as she looked down at him. "Come, we can talk more about forgetting our past selves." Zach smiled, nodding, as he followed her down the hall towards the kitchens.
"Oh my god so yeah your insta photo please." Leila said. Cody showed her and Arya and they grinned brightly. "You look so good!"
"I love the shirt." Arya commented.
"Thank you, thank you," Cody told them, his ego filling up by the second. "Let's go dick around in the music room maybe? Listen to some Green Day miss No way, they're from the 80s?"
"Did you even know they were from the 80s?" Leila asked. Cody blinked at her before he started off down the hall. Leila and Arya exchanged looks and laughed, following the fabulous doctor down the other end of the hall to the music room.
// War Machine Meets The Incredible Hulk // Broken Task 1
Because War Machine sounds better than Iron Patriot and who doesn't love The Incredible Hulk?
Tony let out an over exasperated sigh as he looked around, being away for over a year kind of made things a little fuzzy. And he was having trouble finding the Doctor's office, her name was Clarke and seemed nice enough on the phone. He ran a hand through his tangled mop as he tried to find something he remembered.
The day shift wasn't usually Colton's thing, but the usual day guard was having problems and had asked Colton to come in for his shift and having no real excuse to use he came. His leg was hurting even though it had been at least a year since his injury, he needed something to relief the pain. Or maybe just a break sitting down will do. Colt took a seat in one of the chairs that someone had pushed along the wall with a huff. He rubbed at the leg that as experiencing the phantom pains and kept his eyes moving around watching for anything out of the ordinary.
Tony went back to walking finally coming to the conclusion he was in fact in the wrong hallway, he kept close the wall anyhow looking up to see if any arrows were perhaps posted up to point people in the direction of their destinations. All the while he was just thinking of the sorry state he'd been in while he was here before being deemed sane, seeing things hunting zombie rats. It was enough to make him smile until he tripped over an outstretched leg. "Hey!" He exclaimed catching himself before the fall.
"You sir need to watch where you're going." Colton said pulling his leg back as the boy tripped over it, he saw the younger male coming but made no vocal noise for to show his presence. Colt had hoped he would've looked were he was going. "Aren't you supposed to be in therapy or something?"
Tony snorted at the others comment, he was new-ish. Well he hadn't been there a year and half ago anyway, "I'm not the one with my legs sticking straight out." He exclaimed, "Not a patient. Not anymore anyway. I'm here for a mental check-up." He said pulling the bit of shirt that had the badge to show the other. "Shouldn't you be in therapy or something?"
"Security Guard." Colt said, he stood up and Tony was able to get a somewhat better look at him. The guy was bigger than him, and if Rylee was here Tony would've been bold enough to call him The Hulk to the iron clad pair. "Mental check-up? Are you lost then?" Colton asked.
"No." Tony was quick to say, he'd prided himself on knowing where he was going when he'd been in the asylum and to say he was lost would shoot it right in the face. The other frowned and Tony was quick to change his answer, "Maybe..... Yes.Yes I'm lost."
"Thought so." Colton said almost smiling at the frustration of the other, "What's your name? And which doctor are you going to for this mental check-up?" Colt asked crossing his arms over his chest.
"Tony Jacobson or TJ or Scrappy or War Machine." The twenty-one year old went through a shortened version of his introduction of nicknames before shoving his hands into his pockets. "What's your name? Uh, Dr.Clarke. I talked to her on the phone two weeks ago." He said giving a nod of his head as he relayed the information.
Colton rose an eyebrow as the other went on listing nicknames but made no comment of it, "Nice to meet you Tony. I'm Colton Hopkins or Colt or Hopkins." He said sticking his hand out for the other, "Ah. I think I know where her office is. I can take you right to there."
"Like wise Colton." Tony said bringing a hand out of his pocket and taking Colton's hand he gave it a shake before withdrawing it sticking it back into his pocket. "Really? Awesome!"
"I said think. Don't be thanking me yet." Colton retorted, "Follow me." Colton added turning around a walking, "So what had landed you here in Broken to begin with?"
"Alrighty then." Tony said, listening he was a few steps behind the security guard who seemed to have a slight limp. He didn't care to take note of anything else and it took him a moment to realize he'd been asked a question, "Uh, hallucinations, insomnia, and ADHD." He didn't have a question of his own to ask the guard.
"Sounds like a fun combination." Colton simply said giving a glance behind him to the scrawny Tony.
"Yeah. And it was also paired with a girlfriend who heard things." Tony spurted out, it was a usually little thing to say that the guard would probably find not all that interesting.
"You had a girlfriend in here?"
Well he was kind of wrong he guessed. "Yeah, still have here too. Her name's Rylee." His Iron Man.
"That's... Okay." Colton really didn't know how to articulate his feelings into words and left it at that, he just bobbed his head up and down at bit and started climbing up the stairs to the second floor. "Her office is somewhere around here. Why would you need a check-up though if you're already out?"
"Cool." Tony simply said to the information the guard had said, "Uh, well. I haven't really been sleeping all that well lately and I kind of thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye and Rylee kind of demanded I do this and stuff." The young man said through his hands up into the air, still really seeing no point in this whole thing.
"Well that's certainly troubling, good thing you have that Rylee looking out for you." Colton mused walking a little more he stopped in front of a door that had Clarke on the name plate. "This is it. Don't thing she's in, just take a seat and I'm sure she'll get to you as soon as she can." Colton said gesturing to the row of seats on the opposite wall.
"Alright." His one worded replies were starting to get on his own nerves, Tony moved to the seats as the security guard started to walk away. "Thanks, Colt."
"No problem, TJ." Colton said with a smile and a sharp nod of his head, "Hope I don't see you around here anymore." He said with a chuckle as he walked off.
"You and I both." Tony mumbled a slight smile on his face as he kept his brown eyes on the door of the Doctor. He slipped his phone out of his pocket before his idea of a text slipped away.
TO IRON MAN : Met The Hulk. He works as a Security Guard at Broken. Love you and see you at home. [SENT 11:25 AM]
Tony slipped the phone back into his pocket when it had sent and let out a huff of air as he waited for the doctor to appear so he could get this out of the way. He wondered briefly if she would know if a Dr. Lipisch had ever worked there.
