The final chapter of Broken Chains: 2026 Edition is complete. The end product was a lot of hours of love wrapped up into a little story that swelled into being a third longer than its original iteration, and can now stand as the basis of my Happy Ending. My girls have been through a lot, but now the world's their oyster. *proud of them*

Broken Chains: Whatever the Future Holds

The horizon was painted with the colours of sunset, so much softer and more beautiful than the harsh glow that Taylor had become used to. Perhaps, she pondered, she should make a point of watching the sun go down every day for the rest of her life. For all the hurt that had come of it, she could begrudgingly admit that she'd earned that perfect sunset.

1x would have protested the cooing, perhaps even prodded the voice but the shift of the shadows and change of the light caught their attention instead. Their grip on the handles of their swords tightens. Amber is not a common color they see anymore, and for a moment 1x is almost mesmerized.

… Her attention split for a second- she blinked, only to find her sorry nest replaced with something much grander then she had ever conceived of. A flicker of curiosity drives them to slowly approach the nest. A surprisingly gentle kick to its side confirms it’s real.

“ . . . “

Why would It do this.

“ … This is paradise. The violence is fulfilling, I get to kill them over and over again. “

Why try to trick him? Does it not think him loyal? The answer is right in front of them but they don’t acknowledge it. Their savior and It’s crimson sky was the highest power here. Nothing came above It. It has brought gods to their knees and granted eternal life… in some form to those under its skies.

… but it’s gaze is cold. The gaps in between the violence and fear and the constant, endless bloodshed are cold. Its very touch is cold.

But this is Warm, like sun as it rises or the grip of The Firebrand. It passes through 1x like a ghost, concentrating on their cheek. Instinctively she jerks back, slashing The Daemonshank at the air infront of them to little effect.

So this wasn’t a scheme. But why?

The name is spoken with a particular kind of venom. He speaks with accusation in his tone.

yesssssss of course!!!! I mostly haven't written much with the broken chains characters cause I haven't posted many of them yet and Kamau and Ember canonically don't even meet until way way way way late in the story lol <3333 but I have no qualms about writing for them for these at all!
