that's  why  he'd  shot  the  lamp  that  was  near  by.  oil  had  shot  everywhere,  and  somehow  none  of  it  had  landed  on  jay.  consider  it  that  a  blessing  in  it's  own  right  because  it  would  have  made  the  situation  much  worse  if  his  apprentice  had  been  injured.  no,  dorian  was  very  deliberate  in  choosing  this  route.  there  was  a  door  behind  them  and  they  just  needed  to  let  this  particular  room  catch  fire  and  burn  away  all  of  their  prints.  if  someone  died,  that  wasn't  their  problem.

❝    back  behind  me  towards  the  rear exterior door.  ❞  dorian  says  this  firmly,  leaving  no  room  for  argument  as  he  began  to  knock  down  a  bookshelf  in  the  way  of  the  started  fire  so  it'd  feed  it  more.  the  books,  sadly,  would  have  to  be  sacrificed  to  aid  their  escape.  he'd  honor  them  later.  the  objective  was  to  get  out  and  hold  off  their  pursuers.
