Phegopteris hexagonoptera
Broad beech fern with some fronds completely lacking in chlorophyll; this is not called variegation and could be caused by a multitude of issues. I have not been able to find the culprit yet; with this said, I do want to clarify that this is not variegation.
Broad beech ferns run and this clump was all one plant.
I’ve been noticing this a lot lately in Red River Gorge and if anyone knows what it is that causes this let me know?
