The inspiration behind the poppy as a symbol of Rememberance since 1921 to commemorate military personnel who have died in war. I used to hate the idea of celebrating the dead especially if they were "killed in action". . As a person that came from a country that was once been invaded and colonised by the British; giving money to a charity and wear a Poppy flower sounds absurd to me. As these soldiers actually dead because they tried to steal our resources in our own Mother Land. However as time passes by, it struck me that they are human too. I'm not saying we should support the act of war, but just because I disagree with their actions does not make the value of human lives become less important. 💂🏻‍♀️👩🏻‍✈️👨🏻‍🚒👩🏻‍⚖️ . . . She quickly learned that those who operate from conscience rather than political advantage were often penalized for going against the grain. But she didn't care; she stayed true to herself and remained positive about her path of serving the greater good. Her vision was for an activist government that would serve the needs of all it's citizens. She believed the people had to know it was possible for someone with decency and a fighting spirit to overcome the system by beating it with its own weapons. 🔺 These roots of corruption, bullying and disregard of a fellow human being are old and deep. That's why it seems so dark all around us right now as we navigate the depths of the underground, cutting and removing the roots of this tired old tree and planting new seeds of intention in its place. 🔺 Shirley was the first African American woman elected to Congress in 1968, and in 1972 she was the first to run for the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination. Support the Shirley-of-today in your community, organization, state, etc. Especially if she doesn't yet realize her ability to positively influence and help others.
