derek van scoten (d.v.s.*) - bright beginning (ft. govinda)
d.v.s. makes beats, plays the guitar, and loops the shit out of it. govinda makes beats, plays (the shit out of) violin, and masterfully incorporates the intoxicating musical appeal of eastern music. together, they craft fine jewels like this one. it's hard to categorize; i would honestly just go with 'instrumental music,' if that isn't too offensively vague for everyone. how about IBM....intelligent bass music. haha....it's sentimental, hypnotizing, but has the bulky, vibrant bass tones that so many of us crave in a live setting.
govinda lives in austin but i don't think he'll be performing at tonight's show. d.v.s. is from nyc, has worked with emancipator and devotchka before, and most definitely will be at tonight's show. recommended especially for people who find ratatat's heroic use of guitars to be a sonically stimulating approach to beatmaking. really excited to see him again....time to charge the camera and corral me some beers yes sirrrrrrrr.
edit, because i'm amused -- very happy to find a mystery water bottle of sweet tea vodka and water stashed in my fridge from a week ago. cheers to you, past jared. future jared is grateful. you were wise beyond your weeks.
