The off season had been both a blessing and a curse for Penelope. While it was good for her to get away from the possibility of running into Colin- Mister Bridgerton- she stubbornly reminded herself; not being able to attempt to make things better with Eloise was not. She missed her friend dearly, and wished that there was something she could do to make it right. It made her feel off balance to be at odds with Eloise, as if she was missing an arm.
She sat in her room, attempting to read in order to drown out the flashbacks of Eloise saying that she was dead to her, when Briarly knocked on the door to inform her that Eloise was here to see her. She blinked in surprise for a moment, then quickly sat up and informed her butler to send the other woman up.
After a few moments, Penelope was looking at her dearest friend and swallowing all of her nerves. “E-Eloise. To what do I owe the honor of your visit? It is good to see you.”
