Return a Character from Limbo: Round One Match Twenty-One of Thirty-Two
Brian Bryan
Crystal Brown
OHHHHH AZRAEL AGENT OF THE BAT 64 AND 65 IS SO DELICIOUS!!!!
Azrael accused of murder
all his friends lose hope in him
nobody trusts him, they try to turn him in
jpv/azzy runs away
crushing loneliness
jpv accepts that he is a murderer (What He Was Destined To Be) even though he originally didn’t believe he did it
random guy tries to steal his shoes (guy from issue #1????)
azrael throws him like fifty feet onto pavement because Hasn’t He Always Been Violent
name is cleared; turns out he didn’t kill the original guy!! Yay!!
TURNS OUT, UNBEKNOWNST TO EVERYONE INCLUDING HIMSELF, HE DID KILL THE SHOES GUY!!!
HIS CLOSEST FRIENDS’ LACK OF FAITH CAUSED HIM TO BECOME THE VERY THING THEY DREADED MOST!!!!
Something something Brian Bryan as a mentor figure to the two nascent ‘twin’ identity-less minds of JPV and Sister Lilhy himself having a name which denotes doubling of self-same identity. Even in a full name made up of two parts (which ordinarily would be meaningfully distinct) Brian instead carries singularity. Brian, Bryan: the same thing twice making up the whole of his name implying a stability of selfhood, in stark contrast to the enforced and constantly espoused oppositional ‘Jean Paul VS Azrael’ name + identity situation which is fundamentally defined through its instability and confusion. When Brian is introduced this is super clear: how they introduce themselves is in stark contrast. Also, notice how Brian says ‘depending on your orientation’ when referring to his ‘two last names or two first names’, effectively ascribing any confusion or duality which might otherwise be attributed inwards as a quality of his name instead to those observing him. It’s their orientation which invites in a complexity, not his names themselves which are neutral, singular artifacts.
ALL MY ANGELS, PLEASE TELL ME YOUR HOTTEST OF TAKES ON AZRAEL. Hold nothing back, have no fear, your takes are safe with me.
And yes, please repost this. This could get fun.
