the tower was certainly one of the more quieter, and dare he say, more tranquil parts of the castle that skyhold had to offer despite the amount of people that came and went. considering they had to share the tower with a vast library just a level below them, people were just generally quiet as they entered the space and spoke in hushed whispers if they had to. simon quite enjoyed the vantage point that the top level offered, as he could often be seen leaning over the railing, watching the people below.
if he ever bored of talking to the other spies or the ravens, dorian was just a short walk away. if he fancied himself some ale or a game of wicked grace, the bull's chargers were just the company to offer that at the herald's rest, though it wasn't too often that he found himself escaping from his perch. his solitude was a peaceful one.
however, what DID disturb his peace was the sudden shrieking of several birds and double the sound of panicked flaps of several wings. their cages rattled with their movements, an empty one even toppling over. a big, orange ball of fur could be seen springing away from them in fear, balancing precariously on the same railing the rogue had been leaning on before the feline decided it would be a good idea to leap over it, surely to meet his doom if he had not yet met it the last eight times already.
quick reflexes allowed ghost to immediately reach out and grab the cat by the SCRUFF before it could fall three stories below. heads in all levels turned to the source of the commotion, it made his skin CRAWL feeling so many pairs of eyes on him so he pulls the cat back over the right side of the railing before even more gathered.
β what the fuck...? β he holds up the cat higher, slightly closer to inspect. β spymaster, this thing yours? β he asks as he held up the cat for leliana to see from across the platform, his ferelden accent thick with annoyance.

βYou thought they would be more impressive,β HE SAYS, MIRRORING THE GESTURE. Leave it to Colette to find critique in a thing even as fantastical as this. He cannot help but feel fondness. Miraak saunters around the skeleton splayed across the grass, trailing fingertips along an extended wing-bone. βSo you are unimpressed!β
βTruth be told, I thought the same when I first saw one. I expected...β He repeats the gesture. It's an apt way to explain it. βI thought the bones would be thicker, I suppose... They are far less imposing without meat and scale.β He stops in front of her. βDovah grow with age, but only just. Hence-why Alduin is the largest. It is rather straightforward.β

HE CANNOT BEGRUDGE HER FOR A DESIRE TO RUN. Against a dovah, anything but the use of their own weapon, the Voice, is painstaking endeavour, requiring the use of many more than a single individual to take down. And even then, it could be difficult. All things considered, it was fortunate that the dragon picked here, now to attack. Unfortunate for the dragon.
βDid you not want to see a living dovah?β He chides, far too casual for the circumstance at hand. Dovah are indeed much bigger when they are living. Scales and meat create a mass that appears as big as an entire small town, winds that shroud entire buildings under their shadow.
βYes. I plan to slay it, should it not tuck its tail and flee.β No plan, then. Miraak eyes her at his side. Truthfully, he didn't really have advice for her, as these fights were ones fought on pure instinct and conversation in a language she did not speak. Dragons battled in words, words she would never be able to harness the true power of, even if she did understand them. He has only a few of sage advice: βWatch and learn; this is the truest language dragons speak.β
With the same arm she'd grabbed, he pushes her back and steps forward into the center of the street, the biggest open space, the most obvious target.
βMeyus diiv!β Yells the Diist Dovahkiin to the sky above, arms spread wide and waiting, goading and fearless. βMeyz luft hin daan!β

β dreams and prophecies. why must they always be in riddles? β for Liserne's dragon age verse!
LISERNE THINKS THEM TESTS, OF SORTS. If you are able to parse the truth from what little is given, then perhaps you are worthy of gleaning their warning. Or, at least, that is what her mother used to tell her as a girl. (Whatever Gods the People used to worship are gone, and the answers are locked away with them.)
"They would not be dreams and prophecies if they told the answer plainly. That would make our lives far too easy."
@bretonbookworm said: What would be wise for us to do now? to ZYA!
wise. they all think it of her, one way or another. whether by her age relative to the shorter-lived beings among them or by her years of service to selΓ»ne. once she might have thought it of herself, but if she ever knew what wisdom was she begins to think she might have forgotten it when a worm was placed behind her eyes.
she sighs, twisting her hand to pull silvery light around it, playing with the moonlight like some fond friend.
the wisest thing, she thinks, might have been to let nettie drive that stick into her brain. before the mindflayer worm could even begin to think of changing her. changing any of them. there was a recklessness in continuing on, and yet by the moonmaiden's grace - - by the cool hope in the silvery moonlight - - she could not do anything else.
"i am not sure," she says. "halsin seems to think the underdark the wisest answer, to keep us from the horrors of the shadow curse awhile. but there are horrors in the underdark that might well take us before we ever get a chance to face the shadow curse at all."
silver-grey eyes turn up to colette, steady and cool as the moonlight threading 'round her fingers - - and yet not unkind. never unkind.
"what of you? what does your learning think of the path set out before us?"
