So he managed to see the other at a distance. The looks that he  gave to others were a cross between hatred and predatory. It was strange indeed. His eyes just watching from across the street, thinking what this child was up to..

“Forgive my intrusion.”

Ten o’clock. The air on this summer night was cool, breezy, and comfortable. Ava decided to walk back to her apartment instead of hailing a cab or calling for a private car. She had just sat through two and a half hours of the American Ballet Theatre performing Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella. It was a thoroughly entertaining production and she had enjoyed herself immensely, but was now happy to be on her feet and out in the fresh night air. She hummed the melody of “Grasshoppers and Dragonflies” to herself as she nearly skipped down the sidewalk. How long had it been since she’d felt like this? She was almost… Giddy. Maybe it was okay to feel like this all the time. Maybe this is what you always felt like when you consistently took good care of yourself and fed responsibly. Anyway. She didn’t want to think about all that just now. With a song in her head and a spring in her step, she made her way through the city.
