Visited Brean Down Fort (on 22st June), a natural pier with dramatic cliffs and Victorian fort. Brean Down is a natural pier that stretches out into the Bristol Channel. It is also a great place to go for a walk and explore the hidden history. There are many things to see on your visit to Brean Down. Tides and currents - Brean has the second largest tidal movement in the world. The distance between the high and low water can be as much as 3/4 mile. Brean fort - The fort known as a Palmerston fort was built in 1870 to protect against French invasion. Parts of the fort are open to visitors. Roman temple - The Romans built a small temple on the second highest point on the down. Wartime directional arrow - This huge painted arrow directed Second World War bombers to the practice range. The steps - Up the side of the Down is a set of steps which take you to the top of the down and provide amazing views along the way.
