💧World Water Day💧 Today is World Water Day, and this years theme is Valuing Water🌊 So what does water mean to you? How is it important to you? Well, for me, without water, I wouldn’t be able to create the garments I do! My 🌎Earth Collection🌎 is made of Tencel Lyocell, a fabric created with sustainability as the top priority. Tencel’s chemical treatment stage uses the cutting edge NMMO process, which means that the closed loop solvent solution is recovered far better than that of other materials, at a 99% recapture rate! Being made of natural derivatives, Tencel Lyocell material does not release any nasties into our waterways. Did you know that each cycle of a washing machine can release more than 700,000 plastic fibers (a result of buying polyester clothing) into the environment? My 💦Water Collection💦 helps to fund keeping our oceans healthy! The recycled material I buy is made from ghost nets which have been discarded or lost by fishermen. From Waste to Wear 👑♻️🪡 As today is Global Recycling Day, I wanted to show you some of the gorgeous colours in my Water Collection (made with recycled fabrics of course!) Slow Garments recycled swimwear is made from Econyl, a yarn constructed using carpets, industrial plastic & other waste including ghost nets that have been discarded or lost in the ocean by fishermen. Research conducted by WWF indicated that between 500,000 and one million tons of ghost fishing equipment are abandoned in the ocean each year! We have spoken about how beneficial this is for our sea life to have more healthier seas, which means less nets! Volunteer diving teams at the charity @HealthySeas are able to collect around 300kg of ghost nets per day! These are then processed into your swimwear! ✨ Turning trash into treasure ✨ The charity are leading the way to protecting the 650,000 marine animals that are killed by discarded nets every year. By turning waste into a valuable resource, I am able to ethically turn them into swimsuits, so you can get ready for Hot Girl Summer in sustainable style! Today is World Consumer Rights Day! World Consumer Rights Day operates as an outlet to emphasise the power of consumers (that’s you!) and their rights to a fair, safe and sustainable marketplace for everyone. This very movement was inspired by a JFK speech in 1962, expressing that all citizens have ‘the right to be informed, the right to choose, and the right to be heard’. The WCRD theme for 2021 is ‼️Tackling Plastic Pollution‼️ Did you know that 85% of man made ocean debris is made of plastic? This includes the microfibres of the clothes you wash, which slip through the filter and into our waterways. Slow Garments aims to combat this unfortunate truth by creating clothes made from a material called Tencel Lyocell, as it’s made of tree cellulose from sustainably sourced wood using environmentally responsible processes♻️ The natural white colour means it doesn’t need bleaching, and it takes to dye considerably better than most other materials.
