#bread and puppet

earlier this month i had the honor of being an apprentice at the bread & puppet printshop in glover, vt

this entire endeavor was a 2.5 solo roadtrip to the east/northeast. the sum of its parts equated 33 hours alone behind the wheel. i spent time in philly for a couple nights, camped in vt for the duration of the apprenticeship, visited albany on the road home before spending my final & weariest night in buffalo

this was a super actualizing experience for me. i loved getting to be part of this & I feel like it was in part a remedy for some of the burnout & resentment I’ve been feeling towards my relationship to artmaking & art

there are several things i got to do for the first time, including walking on stilts and performing in a show! it was an honor to meet the other apprentices, the staff, volunteers, and the others i met on the road or while in vt

I also feel such deep gratitude for the friends that have encouraged me, materially supported me with commissions / art purchases / dog care / and some gifts for the travels, and kept me from soul-death over the years. i didn’t think I’d ever get to a place of taking myself seriously enough to get do something like this & so much of this is a result of being supported and loved so well by my community & by the people I love

this entire trip was full of so much magic and some crazy synchronicities. i laughed so much, learned so much, and i feel extremely lucky! I also feel very refreshed having spent so much time in nature and staying mostly off my phone. I’m feeling curious to see the ways this perspective shift will play out, and I’m feeling very hopeful, excited, and rewarded.
