I’m going on a Brazillian Jiu Jitsu camp this weekend (specifically for women, which should be fun because it’ll hopefully mean more training partners in the vicinity of my body type) and I kind of needed a third gi for that, so I bought one on sale. Except the pants were like this
BJJ is probably heaviest on the gi out of all martial arts, there’s constant gripping and pulling, so altering is kind of tricky as things need to be heavily, heavily reinforced. But I had an old pair of too-large gi pants so I gave it a shot.
Not half bad. How long they’ll survive though, I couldn’t say. The extra ridge might give people a very convenient (for them) grip there. We’ll see.
Then I dyed it, because I’ve been in love with a photo of an old dark green gi I saw ages ago and wanted one.
I love the colour. Wish I’d thought to throw it in with a pack of green polyester dye first to dye the stitching a middle green, that would have looked even cooler, but still. I think it looks great - it’s an interestingly different colour from the standard white/blue/black but not an disruptively weird one.
