Baycats prepare for their upcoming game

San Sebastianian College-Recoletos de Cavite's Baycats continues to awe and inspire the Sebastinians by working hard to strengthen their mental and physical abilities for them to be ready for their upcoming bout.

If the weather permits, the basketball team led by Coach Wilfred Gabriel trains Monday to Friday, and sometimes, even on Saturdays at the SCC-RdC Main Campus if ever they need an extra fortifying.

The basketball team focuses their training on the enhancement of each individual’s hard and soft skills with a series of conditioning, systematic ball rotation training and other physical training such as building strength, speed, endurance and stamina.

Aiming for victory, Baycats Basketball Team will be competing in CAVSCAA this September.

Even though there is no scheduled date of game yet for the Baycats Men Volleyball team, Coach Reywel Francisco still requires them to train three times a week at the 4th Centennial Gymnasium-Cañacao Campus, and sometimes, at the quadrangle of SSC-RdC Main Campus.

"The kind of training we do is hard yet we are trying to resort to it and believing that we can give our best until we become professional players in the future," said Joseph Rabor, a volleyball varsity player.

Both teams noticed their improvements when it comes to discipline, skills, sportsmanship, camaraderie inside and outside the court, respect for one another, willingness to work harder, and having the mindset of winning.

They share the same goals of bringing home the trophy and letting everyone know that SSC-RdC can definitely help students excel and achieve their goals in academics, sports, and in other extra-curricular activities.

SSG makes history with Freshmen Apirs

With a goal to establish a harmonious relationship between students, the Supreme Student Government successfully organized the first-ever Freshmen Apirs, an acquaintance party held last August 10 at the Saint Ezekiel Moreno Lobby.

According to SSG President Joselito Orio, their plan was to connect the freshmen with both regular and irregular senior students, and to ease the stress brought by the recent week-long preliminary examinations.

“I am very glad for the outcome of our event because I believe that we were able to accomplish our main goal and send the message that we wanted to execute. The students’ feedback brings a certain joy and satisfaction that allows me to understand the worthiness of serving my fellow Sebastinians,” the SSG president added.

San Sebastian Jammerstags of San Sebastian College-Manila opened the event with a booming band performance.

Wearing white tops, Sebastinians partied to the performances of Baycats Extreme Squad, Dies Lovis, 124, Kuya D, Payl, Cai Camua, and Kim Negosa.

“I felt that the Freshman Apirs was a really good way to connect and unite the college students. We get to interact freely and enjoy whatever is happening. It was a very fun, good, and memorable experience as a first year [student],” Hannah Kristen Lumen, a Psychology freshman, remarked.

Lumen also stated that she finds that the recent events in San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite exciting and efficient in accommodating students to get comfortable with the institution and its people.

“The SSG aims to accomplish all the activities and projects that will make SSC-RdC a progressive Recollect Educational Institution; hence without all the help and approval of the new administration, this will not be possible. We, as the voice of the student body want to send a message that the SSG is one with the administration in providing a harmonious environment and activities that will help the Sebastinians in their personal growth and enjoyment,” Orio said.

The Supreme Student Government has been active in creating programs since the start of the academic year, and next to their recent event is an activity dedicated to the celebration of Buwan ng Wika.

BACK TO BASICS New Father President eyes identity revitalization -----

Grounded on heavenly principles, Rev. Fr. Rafael B. Pecson, OAR has been hailed as the 15th President of San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite (SSC-RdC), promising a renewed and refined vision and its application through the mission which all solidify the school's identity.

In his speech, Fr. Pecson, being observant along the college departments collaborative meeting with him, has formulated various ways that are aiming for holistic excellence and formation of the Sebastinian family inside and outside the school.

"In my two months as College President, I met with almost all sectors of the college. We further defined how our vision and mission will be pursued. I saw three strategic directions; first, institutional excellence; second, engaged citizenship; and third, integrated formation. Through institutional excellence, we will build a stronger San Sebastian. Through engaged citizenship, we will build a stronger Cavite City in the Philippines. Through integrated formation, we will build together a stronger San Sebastian community," he said.

"These triple directions cover many things. Perhaps, everything that we have to look is that we need to do in San Sebastian, in Cavite City, in the country, and beyond, but most of all, rooted in an Augustinian Recollect spirituality," the newly-invested President added.

The investiture rights has been held last August 4 at the Recoletos 4th Centennial Gymnasium at the SSC-RdC Cañacao Campus which housed the Elementary, Junior High School, Senior High School, College, Faculty of various deparments, Academic Non-teaching personnels, guests including the Augustinian Recollect Pre-novitiates, nuns, and priests that are comprised of the current administrators as well as some of their predecessors.

In addition, a mass has also been offered and celebrated by Rev. Fr. Dionisio Q. Selma, OAR, the Prior Provincial of the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno along with the other OAR priests.

On the other hand, Rev. Fr. James C. Castelo, OAR, former Vice President of Finance, emphasized Pecson's holistic institutional objectives as indicators of the school's goal of bringing a positive legacy among the Sebastinian community.

"It manifests the clear direction of SSC-RdC in sustaining its positive impact in the society and in the life of every Sebastinian and of every stakeholder. Indeed, SSC-RdC could still give much because in Baste, we make education work and together, we can make it happen. Bravo!" Fr. Castelo remarked.

This revitalization of the vision and mission implementation will be of a great help as it will encourage the learners to do well in academic field and have a unison spirit since the Sebastinian community lend a hand to one another towards inclusive growth, a college freshman noted.

"Malaki yung matutulong n'un sa student kasi mas namo-motivate kami na mag-aral nang mabuti dahil alam namin na nagtutulungan ang mga Sebastinians upang magkaroon ng magandang future ang bawat students," said Donna Pineda, a BSBA Management Accounting student.
