Glimmer is Umber’s daughter. I’ve brought this up on the wiki, and discord, but never on tumblr.

Their abilities are compatible. Shadows and light. They both have black hair.

This is the base for most of my Glimmer theories.

Now, here is my branch to that theory. I have a few, but in this one, she has grown up in the Neverseen

Little Miss Neverseen - Branch 1 Of Glimmer is Umber’s Daughter

This would explain why Glimmer couldn’t clearly define right from wrong in a mental state, aside from emotionally. She basically grew up there, probably slowly integrated into the Neverseen’s society. She was taught from a very young age to never take off her mask. It’s so deeply ingrained in her that she can’t remove her hood, even after she left the Neverseen. Glimmer left because there was nothing left for her there. Her mother was dead, which had been the only thing keeping her in the Neverseen, fighting against her Morals. Glimmer seemed very comfortable in the hideouts. She reiterated many times she doesn’t know anything about the plans. Umber didn’t want her too deeply involved, and Fintan was happy to comply. In the middling books, we were told each person in a scheme knew their role, and their role only. It’s not a stretch.

[ > Comfort him ]

You gently embrace Charlie, reassuring him. After a few minutes, the stiffness in his shoulders melts away, and he hugs you back, whispering his thanks.

You stay like that for a minute longer, and then he sighs, leaning away. You both stand and he takes one last look at the stars. He closes his eyes, breathing in deeply. Then he looks at you with a real smile, looking more lively than he had been.

[I guess we’ve got a party to get back to, huh?]

[ > Explore the river’s edge ]

You walk alongside the river for a few minutes before you come upon a sitting form. You can’t tell who it is until you get closer. They haven’t seemed to notice you yet. They don’t seem to be moving. Aren’t they cold?

[ Get closer ]

[ > Take him home ]

Charlies smiles, standing close enough to you for you to feel his warmth. His shoulder brushes against yours in an affectionate gesture. 

[Yeah.]

[…Thank you. Again. For… for listening. For caring enough to come find me.]

You walk home together.

[ > Ask what’s wrong ]

Charlie looks a little caught off guard. He smiles, but it’s wobbly.

[It’s– it’s nothing…]

It’s not nothing. But you don’t press it. He confesses in his own time.

[I’m just trying to be who I want to be. I want to be who everyone else needs me to be, too. I’m trying to find a new purpose, I guess… my time with Eli is almost up, I think. I think they don’t really need me anymore. And that’s good– that means I did my job right, I suppose. But it still makes me… sad.]

His eyes are damp.

[Does that make me selfish? To wish that things were the way they used to be…?]

He sighs, dropping his head for a minute.

[I wish I could shake this weird sad feeling. I try to drown it out with happy things a lot, but it always comes back. Am I who I was supposed to be? I’m sure not who I want to be. I just… I just wanna be able to get there. Eventually.]

Then it’s quiet, and you know he’s said all he needs to.

[ Comfort him ]

[ Take him home ]

[ > Sit beside him ]

He doesn’t say anything for a few minutes. When he does speak, it’s awkward.

[I’m sorry if I worried you. I just wasn’t feeling up to the whole… partying thing, you know? I needed a breather.]

He smiles.

[I love everyone, but it’s good to just get some quiet sometimes. And the stars… the stars are always really pretty here.]

You both look up. They really were pretty. You are both silent again.

[ Bring him home ]

[ Ask what’s wrong ]

[ > Get closer ]

The person looks startled. They look up at you.

…It’s Charlie.

He smiles tiredly, relaxing as he realizes he recognizes you.

[ Help him up ]
