Plant of the Day
Wednesday 15 December 2021
The elegant tree walkway at The Newt, Somerset, UK, is through the canopy of mature Fagus sylvatica (beech) and with an under storey of Corylus avellana (hazel). The branches of overhanging trees were home to the native, evergreen, epiphytic fern Polypodium vulgare (common polypody, adder's fern, brake root, ever fern, wall fern). This fern also grows in terrestrial locations and has creeping rhizomes.
