Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
The Braintrust
A cabal of criminals who each possessed psychic powers, the Braintrust were an international syndicate that believed themselves as superior and above the law. Intent in augmenting their ranks, the Braintrust set up fake schools to lure children with paranormal abilities and then kidnapped them. They set out to recruit many gifted persons all as part of an ultimate effort to change the world and situate themselves as its master.
Known members of the Braintrust included ‘Bombshell’ a woman possessing electrokinetic abilities. She could generate powerful, electrical charges, which she could discharge by snapping her fingers. Bombshell’s consort was the ‘Invulnerable Man,’ whose psychic ability bestowed him near-complete resistance to physical damage as well as superhuman strength.
Another member was ‘The Albino,’ the adult son of the notorious mobster, Steven Mandragora. He possessed a form of telepathy that enabled him to project debilitating hallucinations into the minds of others. Yet another member was known as ‘Schiz’ who possessed telepathy allowing him to read minds.
The Braintrust encountered Batman (Terry McGinnis) after the abduction of a psychic child named Tamara Caulder. Tamara had used her gifts to contact Batman, urging him to rescue her. Batman ultimately succeeded and young Tamara was reunited with her parents. The villains resurfaced some time thereafter having kidnapped two more children to be indoctrinated into their organization. This time, the Braintrust were defeated by Zeta and his ally Ro. The children were returned to their families and the members of the Braintrust were apprehended.
Actress Kate Jackson provided the voice for Bombshell; actor Victor Rivers voiced the Invulnerable Man; actors Brian Tochi and John Rhys-Davies each voiced The Albino; while actor Phil LaMarr provided the voice for Schiz. The Braintrust first appeared in the tenth episode of the second season of Batman Beyond, ‘Mind Games.’
