Die Baureihe 120 ist ein technologischer Meilenstein aus den 80er Jahren. Sie ist die erste Hochleistungslokomotive mit Drehstromtechnik. Aus dem Wechselstrom der Fahrleitung wird über Umrichter Drehstrom für die Asynchron-Fahrmotoren erzeugt. Eine Technologie die später auch im ICE gelandet ist.

The 120 series is a technological milestone from the 80s. It is the first high-performance locomotive with three-phase AC technology. The alternating current from the overhead contact line is used to generate three-phase current for the asynchronous traction motors via converters. A technology that later also became part of the ICE.
