I see a lot of people who generally don’t like labels and enjoy having the freedom of self-expression without them. And that’s totally fine and actually awesome for them!! I think it’s so important to be happy with the way you identify and experience yourself.
But on occasion, I’ll also see some people like this ridicule others for having more niche or specific labels. I get that they’re coming from a place of their own discomfort. It’s totally fine if labels doesn’t work for some people, but there are still plenty of people who do enjoy or need these kinds of labels!
I’m someone who actually tends to enjoy having this high level of specificity for myself. Without labels, I feel like there’s parts of me that are unfinished, hiding, or ready to “run away” from me. I start to feel pretty insecure and ruminate on my identity for hours (which might be due, in part, to my bpd). All of this seems to be alleviated or avoided when I find the right words to describe myself though, allowing me to maintain a stable sense of identity. Sometimes that means having a niche label to call myself by ^^”
At the end of the day, I think we should all let each other be at peace with ourselves in the ways that work best for us individually. There’s no right or wrong way to identify, since everyone’s experience is personalized to themselves UuU
