now just mere inches away from him, she raised a hand to brush his hair out of his face. seeing him like this was not something she enjoyed, and she couldn’t help but wish that she had noticed it sooner. she kept her eyes trained on his forehead as she let the back of her hand come to a rest on his forehead, her stomach immediately dropping.

                   ❝  you’re burning up, ashton, ❞

her gaze flickered down to meet his as she let her hand drop, suddenly very aware of the lack of distance between them. she swallowed dryly, telling herself that this was not the time to be focusing on that. of course it wasn’t the right time; her focus needed to be on him, and making sure that he was okay. letting her gaze drop to the ground, she took a small step back  ( just enough to make it easier for her heart to stop racing ) and let out a breath.

❝  i’m not going anywhere,  ❞    she started softly, looking back up at him. the look in her eyes was soft, but there was definitely a hint of determination in there, as well.       ❝ i can’t just leave you like this. i need to make sure you’re okay. ❞
