Please know, as someone who works at a hotel, you make your life and my life simultaneously worse when you book third party (Expedia, Booking.Com, Hotels.Com, etc.).
Not only are you taking money away from my business, but you are also hamstringing my ability to alter your reservation in any way should you need to make changes, cancel, etc. 80% of my more frustrating interactions at work are because people want me to be flexible, and I Cannot Be That. I cannot change your dates. I cannot apply a promo code. I cannot upgrade your room from a single queen to a single king. You have to talk to the people who have somehow inserted themselves into a situation in which they are completely unnecessary, but you thought you were getting a deal or points or a fun travel package.
People would enjoy the hotel experience 10x more if they just. Booked direct. Call us. Email us. Send us a smoke signal. I don’t know. Just stop involving the weird middle man who tells me I can’t touch your reservation because for some reason you made that his job, and also I have to pay him 30% of what you paid me as a thank you for doing my job that I frankly don’t want him to do, but I have to let him because he makes sure everyone sees that I am an option for you to stay at.
Anyway. I hate them, and you shouldn’t use them.
