they are specifically a problem in the pellannor fields and as punishment for one of his youthful pranks/insubordination, a teenage/young adult boromir was tasked with ridding the pellannor of the rodents.

he was largely successful and this did earn him a teasing new title.

until one lone armadillo was reported in the fields.

this armadillo was the bane of boromir’s existence all the way to the war of the ring. the rohirrim arrive and break the siege, the witch king is dead, the battle of pellannor fields has been won. boromir goes to meet his king.

and then.

he steps in an armadillo hole.

his whole foot goes in, his screams of shock and then rage echo across the fields.

he jumps up. he thrusts his arm into the hole.

he triumphantly holds his prisoner above his head.

its the armadillo.
