I know I make fun of Theo for comparing literally everything (especially the girls he 'likes') to Boris but I also think that if the book had been from Boris' pov we would've gotten the same thing (him comparing everything 2 Theo) just without the denial

ok I literally can’t stop thinking about this so I have to get it out someway
(MAJOR SPOILERS for the goldfinch book/movie)
Theodore Decker lost his whole world when his mother died, he lost his primary caregiver and he lost his truly closest friend (besides Andy of course). Then his dad, who had up and left Theo and his mother and probably never intended on going back ever, came out of fucking NOWHERE to scoop up his biological son with his stupid girlfriend and whisk him away to Vegas in the hopes that it would fix everything.
Well no, it didn’t fix shit. He was left malnourished and alone with a dog neither parent nor girlfriend wanted to take care of. But then, the clouds part when he befriends someone from school: Boris. They become inseparable after only a couple of weeks of knowing each other and get into habits that no real kids should be doing; drugs, thieving, alcohol, etc. but they don’t care, they’re in their own world. They’re in a place where they won’t get hurt except by one another, thankfully in a playful manner. In their haze they both start to fall for one another and remain close, even in ways that none of them can properly remember.
Yet, in comes Kotku, and also the death of his father. Both series of events force young Theo to the point where he can no longer be safe in his little bubble, it has popped and reality has set in: he needs to go home. He wants the love of his life to come with him but he says no, and they part with a kiss and a promise to reunite when possible.
Years go by, Theo has come down from his insane highs and plants himself back into the society he was born into, now he has to work, to earn money, and to marry. He does all of the above, for it is his duty to at this point. So he goes to marry a Barbour (Kitsey), which will keep him tied to the family he adored growing up after losing his beloved mother and also save him the strain of getting to know a girl he didn’t have a history with, which Kitsey supplies with both. He also may love Pippa with all his heart as well but that’s a whole other thing.
Just as he’s getting settled into his routine finally, with all the issues now starting to flood (Lucien Reeves, the painting possibly being found, wedding arrangements, etc.), who does he finally find by complete accident in the city? The one he loved entirely in his boyhood: Boris. And suddenly everything clicks. He never loved Kitsey, did he? Maybe it was different with Pippa but...with Boris here he feels whole, complete, safe. All the memories of boyhood come back to him and he can’t help but embrace him deeply. It was Boris, it was always Boris, even when he was in college, even when he was planning his wedding arrangements with a girl he remembered being a complete brat in his youth...it was always him in the back of his mind, one day they’d reunite and here they were and now? The spark was relit. Yet, he knew it wouldn’t last forever, they were adults now and their days in Vegas were long behind them...but one thing kept sturdy in his mind: he can’t lose him again no matter what. Even when he broke his heart and hurt him, even when he left him alone in the streets of Amsterdam, even when he was drunk and high off his mind in his strange hotel room.
Theodore Decker was in love his entire life and he never realized it until the moment he saw Boris again, with the same eyes, same hair, same charming accent, and even the same boyish outlook on life, and I can’t help but think that that is the most beautiful thing in the whole world.
