The things I want in a workplace that boomers have told me is 'too much'
Semi-regular hours (Like 'You work mornings, You work 20 hours from 6am-1pm Monday/Tuesday/Weekends) so I can plan doctors appointments and have time to myself without having work in the back of my mind at all points of every single day
Not being lied to in interviews about the hours a job will offer me or the time flexibility it requires (I want 24hrs/week. Ok, we can do that. Here's 4. And the rest? Casual hours. Oh.)
Being interviewed by or even having my job applications reviewed by a human
Being given a reason for my job application being unsuccessful if I've been interviewed for the position.
Wage increases when my responsibilities at work increase (Why should I have to train new starters when I make the same amount as them? Why should I open/close the store when I don't get paid any more for that but have way more responsibility?)
Higher pay for unsociable hours (I am happy to come in for 4am or work until dawn but pay me more because I know these are the hardest shifts to find staff willing to work them. I give up my daily activities for this and I should be compensated fairly for that as a human being with a life to live.)
Working for more than minimum wage at all
Managers respecting my time (Do not cancel my shift that you gave me less than 2 hours before the shift starts. If you expect me to call in 12 hours before the shift when I'm sick, I should be able to expect you to contact me with similar notice when you don't want me to work that shift.)
Managers and corporate listening to employees opinions (This item shouldn't be on the menu because people never order it. We need more people to clean up the screens during this event. Nobody cares about that event and only 4 people booked it. We shouldn't have 200pcs of merch for it.)
Corporate providing us with the basic machinery to run the place (You want us to sell more ice creams. Ok, fix the ice-cream machine then.)
Having the requirements on the job advert actually be what they are looking for and be realistic for the role listed (You want a trainee administrator but you want them to have 1-5 years of previous admin experience? Explain what the hell that means here.)
Job listings actually existing (Ghost listing are so dumb and yet the old people in our government want to say they don't exist while they actively use them to gather data or for other reasons.)
Being interviewed by someone who knows the job that is being interviewed for (Karen from HR doesn't know what is needed in Marketing and who is an actual good candidate. A piece of paper cannot explain more to you than hands on experience.)
Free parking at work (I drive to work, I earn £45, I pay £5 on parking, I fill up my car and buy groceries, I have nothing left to save up.)
Alternatively, decent rent prices nearer to my workplace (because I want to move out of my parents house and be more independent but despite living in an economic desert, landlords still want £650/month minimum for a studio apartment which you pay the utilities for and a fee for on street parking and another fee for on street parking (again) to the council.)
Extra: Unrealistic boomer tips: You can no longer just go into a workplace and walk out with a job.
