January 2018 Wrap Up (Spoiler Free)
This month I read 3 books, which is a lot for me. It wasn’t a bad or good reading month. I read “Stalking Jack The Ripper” by Kerri Maniscalo, “Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets” by J.K Rowling, and “Uprooted” by Naomi Novik. I will be reviewing these book in this wrap up. I also started “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak but I am still reading it. Anyway, let’s get into the reviews!
The first book I read was “Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets” by J.K. Rowling. This was my first time reading it (and the series). I am a huge fan of the movies and have been meaning to read the series for years. I read the first book in November and loved it! And I did love this book too, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book. I gave Chamber of Secrets 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. There wasn’t anything that I didn’t like, it is a great book but it was missing something. I LOVED the development of the golden trio. Hermione is what aspire to be, and I absolutely adore her character. And Harry is a legit puddin’! This book to me was like a “development” book, there was a lot of character development which I loved. These books have an amazing ability to allow you to get lost in the world. Who wouldn’t want to attend Hogwarts?!? Overall, I would most definitely recommend this book. I was my first read this month, and I am excited to continue with the Harry Potter series.
The second book I read was “Stalking Jack The Ripper” by Kerri Maniscalo. I rated this book 3 out 5 stars on Goodreads. I picked up this book with high expectations. There has been a lot too much hype around these book, and I was quite underwhelmed. I grew up on Nancy Drew and I LIVE for a good who dunnit. I was really into it in the beginning but a little more than half way through, I realized that I wasn’t interested in who did it or anything else besides Thomas. And when we did find out who did it, I was completely over the book. To me, the identity of the murderer was so boring, and didn’t make a lot of sense. The book fell flat in the mystery aspect. But, I will say that I loved Thomas and Audrey Rose! They were both extremely enjoyable characters and make an amazing duo. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this book because of the fact that it wasn’t a very good mystery.
The last book I read in January was “Uprooted” by Naomi Novik. And I went into the book thinking that I wasn’t really going to like this book (which is a bad way to start a book, I know). I really was interested in the plot based on the synopsis and wanted to read it. I have mixed feelings about this book, but I did enjoy reading it. I rated this book 3.5 out of 5 stars. This book felt so long. I was taken on one heck of a journey. I did have some problems with the book and the characters, such as Dragon being a jerk without any redeeming qualities. I loved Agnieszka, she was so refreshing to read about and so enjoyable. She is messy girl who is brave but not is an absolutely stupid way (maybe a little… still love her). The book was confusing at times, which was frustrating because everything is so relevant. My favorite aspect was the “Woods”, I loved it. It was so new, creative, and creepy. Overall, I did enjoy this book and would recommend it to people who like fairy tales or folklore.
This is my first review and it’s pretty rubbish, but hopefully I will be able to compile my thoughts better next month and going forward and proofread. So please don’t send me hate thanks. If you have an book recommendations, dm me kids. Thanks xx
