37th Manila International Book Fair | 23rd cafe for the year

So I went to the 37th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) at SMX, MoA. I went with Chas and Clauds. I thought they will get bored but their shopping cart was actually heavier than mine haha! So funny. I was only able to buy Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur (which I’ve already read) and Mouthful of Forevers by Clementine Von Radics (which I’m planning to read this Christmas vacation.) I only bought two books that day because I thought that I would be able to go back on their last day with my mom and her friend who has a child who also likes books. But they weren’t able to come because of unexpected commitments so I was only able to go for a day. It was actually my second MIBF in my whole life and I know that it won’t be the last. 

After roaming around around the shelves, I decided to rest first at Caffe Bene, which is my 23rd cafe for the year. My friends had to leave early because Clauds’s mom called her already and they’re both going to Taft so they had to leave together. I only ordered a regular serving of iced mocha so my review is not a hundred percent reliable yet. Anyway, their iced mocha was just okay. It was an ordinary coffee. The place was also small and the furniture were kinda old. The staff was friendly enough though, an extra point for that. That’s only I can say because I only stayed for 20-30minutes while reading a part of Rupi Kaur’s book. Would still love to try their pastries!

Shopping and me-time

MIBF 2015

So here are my Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) 2015 purchases. I only bought 4 book that are within my budget lol. I am trying to change my genre that’s why I bought not-so-unusual books (not the typical young adult books): 

Rebel with a Pen by James Dean, edited by Carlton Hayes: To be honest, I am not sure if it is really James Dean’s. But I’m still giving it a try because hey, it’s James Dean! 

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: This was an assigned reading on high school. But since our teacher provided us some notes and reviewer, I didn’t read the book at all. I also don’t have a copy since it wasn’t required back then.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum: Will you spank me if I haven’t watched Wizard of Oz yet? Perhaps yes. But it’s okay. I blame myself too. Why am I nonsense child before? I only know about playing outside and watch nonsense tv shows. But now, I am really into plays! I want to watch Les Mis but it is too expensive. Enge pera

Norweigan Wood by Haruki Murakami: I saw some of his beautiful quotes on Twitter when some of my friends are retweeting it. So I decided to give his book a try. Plus I really heard so many good reviews about this book. Can’t wait!

Father’s Day 2015

So for Father’s Day, we had our lunch at Kanin Club, Westgate because my lolo was craving for traditional Filipino food. But because the line was so long, we have to wait but I haven’t taken my breakfast yet so I decided to stay at Cafe Breton while waiting and read the last few parts of The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. After waiting for almost an hour, we finally had our lunch. We were supposed to buy our lolo a gift but there were no available parking so we just decided to have our miryenda/dessert at Evia. We celebrated it in a simple way because my stepdad is not here and so is my uncle so we were just six in the family as of the moment. Still, I am happy to see my grandfather smiling even though we are not complete.

Cafe # 16: Cool Beans, Quezon City

The sofas (beside the shelves) are taken when we went there so we sat on the available tables. The place is kinda small. We tried our best to fit on the remaining seats. Maybe they also need some space expansion and additional tables and chairs. The staff are not that friendly. She's not smiling. But good thing, she's not rude. The shelves are mouthwatering (than the food HAHHA) I really love library cafes that much. Okay going back to the real deal, we tried their pasta. Nothing special but the serving is enough. Their drinks are also good enough. The oreo cheesecake is delicious though. Their food is just okay but I would still love to come back, give this place a chance and try their other offer.

I started my book fund. I am still poor though. It is still not enough :( 

My uncle bought me Alex Gonzaga’s Break Na Kami, Paano and Bob Ong’s Si. I loved both of them! I gave them 4/5 in goodreads.

Pasta made by my mom, Iced tea on a mason jar and a good read! I gave The Beginning of Everything 4 out of 5 stars in goodreads. I didn’t expect such ending. I also appreciated the words of wisdom.

bookatlas - I were to find a book with title that starts in letter H & S. I have one local & one international book for each letter.

Got a new book from Fullybooked! I reserved the book and it only came two months after. I hate the late arrival but the wait was worth it.

How to treat yourself: California Maki and ice cream and new book. FB was 20% off before and I managed to buy a book; Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

I read two books at a time. The Unbearable Lightness of Being for my literature class (which I wasn’t able to finish because I lacked time; thanks to Google for the summary) and Papertowns by John Green for leisure reading.
