Across the board, an educational and fascinating read that was very well structured, alternating personal stories of people who identify as asexual and facts that connected with the point of each chapter, stating the evidence and tying it back effectively to the individual’s story, in a way that is still easily digestible. This definitely could have read more like a professional study or a literature review, but I think that would have been a bit more alienating than the author was hoping for. This really delved into the many aspects of life that relate to a person’s asexuality and made it easy for any reader to follow and even relate, regardless of their own sexuality. She really did have me reevaluating our society’s relationship with sex and the role it can play in relationships with others as well as with ourselves. I think the most well-done non-fiction books are ones that make you sit and rethink what you read, apply it to your own life, and further understand what you’re learning, which is exactly what I did with this book. Of course, a ton of my tabs were the media’s portrayal of sex and asexuals, which I’m definitely going to be considered when seeking out more ace stories. A quick read that I highly recommend.
