Poltava's Story (English)
"The German occupation regime and the Soviet government were equally hostile to the national claims of the Ukrainian people. But despite the terror of the Nazis and Communists among the Poltavians, the idea of Ukraine's independence continued to live, which was spread at the cost of its own life by members of the national-patriotic underground. As we can see from Charnetsky's report, made on June 6, 1944 at a meeting of the region's party-economic asset, the OUN « during the occupation of Poltavshchyna carried out a small work to unite anti-Soviet nationalist forces. Great preparatory work for the creation of gangs in Kremenchuk and other areas of the region in order to leave them in our rear with the task of conducting subversive work» .
Neither the Nazi nor the communist regimes were able to destroy the desire of Ukrainians to be masters on their land and masters of their own destiny."
