AuthorLifeMonth2020 • Day 28: Acknowledgements • The one thing they don’t tell you as a writer (especially if you have to do a lot of worldbuilding) is that this job takes a ton of courage. It’s easy to sit behind a screen and tap out the words. What is terrifying is to have to approach someone who is an expert in their field and then try to ask pertinent questions without feeling like a total idiot. • It took all my bravery two years ago to reach out to a San Francisco historian and ask for help. It took even more guts to fly to the city and sit in his house and ask if my story would fly. • In my acknowledgements I recognize my historian and explain how much I learned from him, but to be honest I could have filled two pages with grateful thanks for all the things he taught me about his beloved San Francisco. • It was scary to walk up and knock on John’s door that day, but I will be eternally grateful for his patience and humor as I bobbled my way along to make ACROSS A BROKEN SHORE as authentic as possible. • • • • • #authorlifemonth2020 #acrossabrokenshore #sanfrancisco #bookacknowledgements #bookresearch #historian #yahistorical #yareads #yalit #yabooks #yareadersofinstagram #writerlife #authorlife #writingjourney #booklove #booklife #igauthorlife #igauthors https://www.instagram.com/p/B9HkgYrAjQG/?igshid=15ldg8fapqdsi
