Gems and Oof Moments from "Coco: A Story About Music, Shoes and Family"
*Spoiler Warning!!*
• More of Héctor's attempts to cross the bridge are mentioned:
- Stuffing cotton in his clothes to disguise himself as famous artist Diego Rivera (that punny foreshadowing!)
- Painting himself like an alebrejie - Hiding in a raspa chart
• Shortly after Héctor introduces himself to Miguel and makes a run from his family, he tells a patrolman that Héctor is his uncle and thus reunited with family (irony)
• The flashback chapters of Mamá Coco as she grew up
• When Héctor and Miguel enter Shantytown and Héctor explains how everyone is surrogate family to each other which is better than no family at all, Miguel makes a passing comment that it might be better not to have a family, since they sometimes get in the way/keep you from following your dreams. Héctor is appalled by this and says that when /he/ follows his heart, it leads to his family. Miguel's response? "If that's true, then why are you alone?" …It takes Héctor a moment to recover and brush it off…
• Pepita and the Rivera clan's additional scenes as they track Miguel to the rehearsal studio and Shantytown. During the former, Ceci tells them she saw a skeleton boy matching the description of Miguel, which horrifies Victoria and Rosita, thinking they were too late. For the latter, they see the abandoned areas where Héctor initially greeted some of the other inhabitants (such as the three elder ladies playing cards), implying they experienced the Final Death not long after Héctor and Miguel left
• After Chicharrón's Final Death, it's here that Miguel realizes Héctor's about to be forgotten, and silently notes "he's got /two/ reasons to return home – to save himself from becoming a skeleton and his friend from turning into dust." • All of Óscar and Felipe's antics. All of them.
• On the trolley, Miguel starts to have doubts that his great-great-grandfather will even like him once they meet, to which Héctor is quick to reassure him
• Miguel overhears the singing dog act at the talent show and wonders if Dante has any musical talent
• Héctor gives Miguel an additional piece of advice on performing: ignore the strangers and pretend you're singing for someone you love. Both Héctor and Miguel have the same person in mind when giving/acting on this advice: Coco
Extra
• Miguel's favorite type of sweet bread is the cochinito, and the chorizo is his favorite taquito
