It wasn't until you made it home from the party that your hopes completely dissipated. You knew it was foolish but a part of you still thought-still hoped that maybe he was just running late.

Opening the door, you dropped your heels by the door and wandered inside. You found your boyfriend in the one place that always managed to take priority over you. His studio.

Leaning on the doorframe you sighed, hoping your presence would grab his attention. It didn't take him long to see you in his peripheral vision. He slipped off his headphones, a bright smile on his face. "Hey Jagi you're late." his brows furrowed as he took in your form. Your hair was curled, your makeup done, and you were in the most stunning gown. "Why are you so-" his eyes widened as he recalled your constant reminders throughout the weeks.

"Donggab I have a banquet at the end of the month, can you make it?"

"Of course I can"

"Promise? You know I hate things like this"

"I know…I know…" he chuckled pulling you into a hug and kissing your forehead. "You can count on me."

As the banquet approached you found yourself looking forward to the event. "I got your suit from the dry cleaners" you cheered laying it on the bed. "And I even got you a new tie." you held the red silk up against your dress. "Now we can match"

"You know for someone that didn't wanna go you sure seem happy about this."

You pouted looking at the dress. "I know I don't like these things…Business formalities and what not…but it can be like a date right?"

He smiled brightly pulling you into his body, swaying you with him. "We can even dance." he grinned spinning you.

The night before the banquet you cuddled against him in bed. "Oppa, remember that we have the-"

"Jagiya I know" he mumbled sleepily. He gave your hand a loving before pressing a sweet kiss against it. "But I have a late meeting so I'll just meet you there."

"Remember it starts at 7" you reminded him, your voice in a slight panic.

"I know" he laughed "I'll remember"

He stood up walking over to you "Baby-Jagi I am so sorry I-"

"Forgot, right?" you smiled sadly. Your arms wrapped around your body protectively. "It happens I guess…"

"You're not mad?"

"No…I guess…I'm just used to it…I just thought this time would be different."

He took a deep breath, walking closer to you. He didn't want this to become a habit, and it hurt more that you were almost desensitized to it. He remained silent, watching the gears turn behind your eyes.

"I…just..Donggab…if you don't want to be with me anymore…than just… I mean if it's that much trouble to be in a relationship."

He grabbed your hand pulling you into his chest. "I made a mistake…I forgot…I know that doesn't excuse it…But it's what happened." He was so wrapped up in his work he didn't even think to check his phone. When inspiration hit he shut the world out, it was one of the sacrifices of being an artist, he thought you knew that.

"Do you know how long I waited…?"

"I know…I..I'm sorry…" he whispered into your hair. "I'm so sorry."

You clenched the material of his shirt as you let your tears fall. It hurt knowing that you might always be second in his heart, and yet this was what you agreed to. You knew since day one where his love laid, but you just held out that maybe-just maybe you'd rise to number one someday.

Music was always going to be his love, but you were still hopeful.

“H-Hyuk Woo…” you whispered his name, shaking him just slightly. You felt your eyes sting with tears, and you almost hated yourself for being so emotional.

He smiled in his sleep before cuddling closer to you. “Hm? What Jihye?”

There was no description for the pain you felt hearing your boyfriends ex's name from him. You’d never heard a name sound so beautiful before. You were sure your name never had that same melodic tune as hers.

You gently pushed him off of your lap, before getting up. He sleepily rubbed his eyes watching you turn off the movie. “Jagi?” he sat up, with a pout as his favorite pillow abandoned him.

Without a word you made your way to your room. He reached out to you and grabbed your hand. “Wait, What’s wrong?”

As your head whipped around he flinched at the hurt look in your eyes. “What’s...what’s wrong? Why are you crying?”

Before he could touch your cheek you cringed. “Don’t! I-” you sighed. “Please don’t touch me” you whispered.

“What did I…”

You gave him a pained smile. “It’s nothing really...I’m just tired…” you tugged your wrist from his grasp before hiding out in your room, slamming the door.

He followed behind you but groaned as he jiggled the now locked door knob. “W-wait, what’d I do?” He pressed his forehead against the door. “Please…”

You hugged your knees on the other side of the door. Sighing heavily. Did you have a right to even be angry? He was asleep. He wasn’t trying to hurt you. But that’s what hurt most. It was natural. What was he even dreaming about? Why was he thinking about her? Logically you knew it was silly to be this upset, but there was something about the feeling of inadequacy. You couldn’t explain it but it was a shot to your confidence.

Hyuk Woo desperately grasped at the handle, knocking on the door. It killed him hearing you sniffle. Hearing you be upset and somehow knowing it was his fault. “Jagiya please….Let me help…” he whispered through the wood door. But his only response was the stifled sniffles from the other side. He sank to his knees. “I don’t know what I did...but...I’m sorry…”

“How can you be sorry and not know why…?”

He perked up. At least it was something. He took a breath. “I’m sorry because you’re upset and I love you, I’m sorry because I don’t know why you’re crying, but I know it’s my fault…”

“It’s not your fault…”

But he could tell you were only trying to convince yourself of that. “Then what is it…?”

“What...What were you dreaming about…?”

He frowned thinking back to those few moments ago. He was so startled when he woke up he hadn’t give it much thought. “Jihye…?” he whispered to himself, and was sure he heard you bite back a sob. His eyes widened as it finally sunk in. He had a tendency of sleep talking. It wasn’t consistent or anything but it did happen on a few occasions. “It wasn’t like that!” he knocked on the door. “Please believe me, I did have a dream with her in it but it wasn’t like that…”

“What was it like…?”

It was one of those gray areas that were hard to explain. Jihye was a long time girlfriend. They had a really bad break up. She was one of those people that just fell out of his life, and although it’s been a few years and he’d forgiven her he never really got to say goodbye. The subconscious had a way of doing exactly what he needed. “Promise you won’t be mad?”

“As long as you're honest...All I can do is try…”

He took a breath before finally coming clean. You two were pretty serious now, and every day he spent with you it became painfully vivid that he couldn’t imagine a life without you. Your smile, your laugh, your touch. It was all he could think about. It just so happen that you were the one that mended his broken heart.

You opened the door, a small frown on your face. “You...You were just saying goodbye?”

He nodded and looked up at you. “I promise…” you reached out and took his hand, pulling him up. He laughed seeing you smile at him. “I love you” he kissed your temple.

“I know..I love you too…” you leaned against his chest. “I’m sorry I overreacted…”

“It’s ok...I probably would have done the same if I heard you say your ex’s name in your sleep.”

“Really?”

He smiled, hugging you tightly. “Definitely.”
