Ogby leaves the farm his family works on to start his singing career and travels from city to city for a while getting small gigs here and there until he meets Kleene in a small city after Kleene had run away from his family and started playing his flute on the street corner for money. They then keep traveling and find themselves at the port city where Abten is just getting out of prison after being captured. Abten decides to change her ways and talks to them before joining the band as their lute player. They continue to travel to different cities and become a slightly better-known band.

Ruos leaves her clan looking for redemption and becomes a mercenary for about two years before she meets the band in a bar. At the bar, they request to hire her to help protect them as they travel across several kingdoms to the city of Ringlin. 

They meet Wyndove in the town of Ravenshallow where she is trying to help the towns doctor cure people of a sickness spread by an oozing monster in the swamp nearby. After defeating said monster they return for healing and she shares her story with them. Because they’re all traveling the same way, and someone with medicinal knowledge would be nice, Wyndove joins the group with her draft horse Audrey.

From the swamplands, they cross into the Dutrivi Desert. During a sandstorm, a group of loxodons, including Galgara find and lead them back to the loxodon city. They are brought to speak with the elder council and Galgara is all but forced upon them so that she can fulfill her prophecy. Within little more than a year of traveling Galgara gives up on her prophecy so that she can do what she wants and continue to travel with the group, dubbed the Sensational Six by Ogby, much to the group's dismay.

By the time they reach the Sanctuary of Rebirth, Titania has become a paladin there and works to protect the Sanctuary. At the sanctuary, Titania strikes up a friendship with them and an older priestess tells Ruos of their future as a group, but they must travel to find the remaining members first. The Priestess blesses the group, gives them provisions and sends them away. Titania decides to travel with them to spread the word of hope and rebirth, knowing she may never get a chance to help her brother.

Another few months pass and they reach Ringlin where the duo Parvel and Cawphain introduce themselves at a large festival the city is holding by the lake. Later that night Cawphain is caught by Galgara trying to steal from the group, and Parvel steps in to save him. A scuffle ensues until Ruos separates them and they are sat down for questioning. They are convinced to join by Ogby and Titania, though Cawphain des so very reluctantly. 

Still, in the city, Archibald meets Wyndove at a spell and medicine shop where they strike up a conversation about healing. Wyndove tells him about her group and how they don’t have a true healer. As Archibald wasn’t really happy with his life in the city and wanted to do something with his cleric studies he agrees to meet the group. After introductions, Archibald agrees to join the group. 

The “Tenacious Ten” (another nickname) spend several months in the city. The bards perform and Ruos travels with them as a guard, having grown fond of them and also knowing what their future was. Galgara, Archibald, and Wyndove become friends who shop, talk and paint nails with each other. Parvel spends his time trying to convince Cawphain to stay with the group and Titania spreads the teachings of her Sanctuary, though she does watch the bards perform sometimes. Their time at the city is cut short by a massive attack that kills thousands and leaves the city devastated, as well as covered in shiny yellow goo and fog. Searching for the mastermind behind the attack they find themselves once again traveling across the continent following leads and battling mysterious monsters made of the yellow substance. Most of the continent finds itself in the same state as Ringlin.
